Show WRECK 01 SANPETE VALLEY RAILROAD Runaway Freight Train Crashes Into Passenger; Engineer and Workman Injured. Special to The Tribune. NEPHI. July 20. A serious collision occurred oc-curred on tho Sanpete "Valley railroad seven miles cast of this city, at 1 o'clock today, between a work train and a regular regu-lar passenger train. Sam Parry, the engineer of tho passenger train, sustained a broken shoulder, and Vivian Andruas. aged 18. ono of the men on tne work train, had his legs badly broken and lacerated. Tho locomotive of tho passenger pas-senger train wa3 domollshed; four cars loaded with steel rails were wrecked, and about 300 feet of track torn up. The work train left hero ahoad of the passenger, und whon near the head of Salt Creek canyon became unmanageable and started to back down tho track at a. terrific speed. Sam Parry, tho engineer of tho passonger train, which was going up the canyon, saw the runaway coming. He Immediately reversed his onglno and started to back down, but had gone but a few hundred feet when the runawav crashed Into his locomotive. Parry and his fireman Jumped Just before tho crash came, thus saving tholr llvos. The passenger pas-senger train was mopped by means of handbrakes and nono of the passenger cars left the track. None of the passengers passen-gers was seriously hurt, although they were badly scarod and shaken up. Some few wero brulsod and scratched. Vivian Andruss, the workman, was taken to Salt Lake this afternoon, and Sam Parry, tho engineer, was taken to Monti. Work on clearing up tho wreck was taken up immediately, and It is expected expect-ed that trains will bo running over tho rood by Tuesday noon.
