NEW YORK. Per 6. Three of New York's jfrf-at highways, the river, the underground railway and the street and that dark section known SS Chinatown, each furnlxhed a police mystery today. In two cases, the subway and Chinatown, China-town, death had come between the victims vic-tims and the Investigators. In the first, the police have only the mangled body of a man, who before he hurled hlmertf before a rapidly moving train, had taken every precaution pre-caution to thwart the efforts of the Officers to establish his Identity. His clothing, unmistakably new. bore not u single distinguishing mark and not even a trinket was found in any of the pockets. Description of Suicide. The man was about 40 years old. weighing 170 pounds, was 5 feet 9 Inches In height, dark hair and blue eyes, and the scrupulous care with which h. wax dressed Indicated that he was not a laborer. Beyond these meager mea-ger details, however, nothing Is known. The Chinatown mystery was the death of s woman. Tottle Lane, a white woman, whose husband, a Chinaman, died a short lime ago. Had Three Callers. Since then she has been living In pen street In the bouse of Mock Dm k, one of the most notorious of the Chinese Chi-nese leaders In New York, who is under arrest aw aiting trial on a hurre of murder. Lottie Lane had three callers lust night, a Chinaman and n white man and a white woman, During the night th'se all. mm summoned a physician phy-sician and notified the poli that their hostess had fainted while she was en-tertalning en-tertalning them. The physician, who found her dead when he arrived, rogurded the death as suspicious. The police put the three callers under arrest and began an ln- .-stlgation . Dragged From River. The central figure In the mystery of the river is William Hallinger, aged 28 years, a market man, who says his home Is In Yonkers. He was dragged from the East river ni ar the upper end of Hell-Gate early this morning, more dead than alive, by a tug-boat captain, who heard his cries for help. Hallingi-r said he came from Yonkers yesterday with a load of produce and nftr disposing of his war.-s started out to enjoy himself. Belle Weber, a 20-year-old girl was the fourth victim.
