Show BOOM IN HOCKEY. International League Will Number Eight Clubs. Tribune Sp"dal Sporting Service. DETROIT, Mich., Sept. 2. There Is a great boom in professional hockey In this vicinity and It appears extremely probable that the International Hockey league will number eight clubs during the coming season. There will bo a meeting of the league at Sault Ste. Marie to discuss plans for the coming season and act on the new teams which will probably apply for admission to tho league. There Is n strong possibility that Du-lulh, Du-lulh, St. Paul and Chicago will have teams which will want to enter the league at that time, and if they materialize mate-rialize the league will bo In good shape territorially, as a team Is needed In the vicinity of Chicago to break the journey jour-ney from the Western cities to Pittsburg. Pitts-burg. Chlcugo Is tho most probable new member for the league, but Duluth and St. Paul are strong possibilities. There Is a strong rivalry among the teams for players next season. Calumet, Calu-met, which won the championship last year loses three of Us strong players, and Portage Lake, another strong team, Is on the lookout for material. It loses Doc Gibson,- the veteran who Introduced Intro-duced hockey in the West, and will have a hard time filling his place. Little Lit-tle Is. known concerning Pittsburg's prospects, but the teams of the American Ameri-can and Canadian "Soos" promise to bo very strong. |
