Show THERE 15 A BETTER CHANCE. In the consideration which is being had of the arrogant Claim of the Flah Light and Hallway company that it must have what It wants1 or It won't play, we are glad to see Hint more and more of the Couneiltnen arc coming to the view that the City has rights w hi h are fully as strong as the company's Claims, and that the city's sovereignty is entitled to respect. That lew, once it Is thoroughly absorbed, ab-sorbed, will be a wonderful clarifler of the situation. Once It becomes predominant predom-inant we may venture to hope that the Council Will wake up to a perfect realization reali-zation of the fact that while the I'tah Light and Railway appears at presenl to be the nicoi prominent applicant for a franchise ll ls not alone. A much better application in every way for the city is now pending Ip the communications communica-tions from Mr. Nevvhouse. offering light and power to the city ami people, of a better quality than they have been receiving, re-ceiving, and at a less price. The "Council Is asked to consider, further, fur-ther, the stirring fact, generally con- di ! by all persons nol blinded by bigotry and fanaticism, that the' fact that President Joseph F. Smith of the church is- a No president of the l.'lah Light nnd Hallway company, Is not of sutTl. ii nt weight to overbalance the icl, uitaffe tet the pedple of this proposed pro-posed better and cheaper service It Will be good news for the people In general that a determined effort is to be made In the streets of this city to enforce "the rule of the road." But little attention Is paid to that rule here. Any old way to turn is taken, nnel the uncertainty, collisions, and lnconen-lence lnconen-lence resulting, are annoying where the bobbing about to get by is not comical. Drivers In the streets are often In danger of colllsiem from the same cause that makes trouble for pedestrians on the sidewalks, the refusal re-fusal to keep to the right. There is but one exception to that rule, and that is. don't get in between a lady and a show -window, w hether to avoid doing so you are obliged to turn to the right or the left, or to stand on your be ad The traders of this city will be at one with the farmers In rejoicing at the prospective macadamising of State str?et from Tenth South up to connect with the regular paving. It Is a re-pro.o re-pro.o h to the city that this Street has been neglected so long, but all will now be forgiven If the work Is completed com-pleted and the roadway Is put in perfect per-fect order before the fall storms. -Mr. Fernstrom Is willing to stake his reputation as a lawyer on the proposition proposi-tion that the opinion of the attorney of the bond purchasing company Is correct, cor-rect, so far as It is adverse to the city's Interests |
