Show SIRS. JIAYBRICK'S BOOK. I Mrs. Maybrlck's Own Story: My Flfteon .Lost Years. By .Florence Illzaboth May-brick. May-brick. Published by Funk & Wngnalls Company, New York. It was lncvltablo that Jlrs. Maybrlck, lately released from an English prison where oho had been for fifteen years on conviction of poisoning her husband, should put forth a book. It must bo confessed con-fessed that sho has done well In choosing the one to got up the legal caso for her. Tho book Is a very comploto showing of tho causo which brought her so prominently promi-nently before the public. A few pages of tho beginning aro devoted to her ancestry, and then the narrative plunges at onco Into tho great question at issue. That tho book is written with skill Is evident; It Is as clear an exposition as could possibly bo made, and yet it Is doubtless no stronger than her defenso before tho jury. Tho really strong point In her favor Is the faulty charge of tho trial Judge, and tho fact that ho was soon after removed from tho bench on tho ground of his evident insanity. Thoso who believe Mrs. Maybrlck May-brlck Innocont of tho chargo on which she was arraigned will no doubt consider thlB work her complete oxculpaUon. Thoso who believe that the Jury got the matter about right? will not see In tho work any particular reason to chango their minds. |
