Such Is tho Indignation of tho people of Macon over tho engagement of Mrs. Lee Jordan Jor-dan to Senor Don LuIb F. Corea, Nlca-rnguan Nlca-rnguan Minister to tho United States, that the matter has been brought before be-fore the Common Council and has been repeatedly discussed by that body in conference with the Mayor since tho report was first circulated that Corca Is of negro blood. Tho fact that the suggestion of miscegenation misce-genation in connection with the marriage mar-riage was made has been responsible for this Interference by the Common Council. Coun-cil. Other charges have been made against Corea, notably that ho has .a wife and child in Nicaragua, but these are not considered matters that would call for public action. The belief that Mrs. Jordan was to marry a man supposed sup-posed to have negro blood In his veins was a matter in which the Common Council regarded Itself as clearly Justified Jus-tified In discussing. It is true that Minister Corea has cleared himself of the charges against him and it has been proved that his blood Is as pure In Its character as that of any grandee in Spain, but this has not been generally made known In Macon, and the people here arc still waiting for Information which will clear the matter up to their satisfaction. satisfac-tion. Mrs. Jordan's Is one of the best families fam-ilies In the State, and for this reason Is under obligations to the State which she cannot evade, in the opinion of the people of Georgia. |
