Show SHORT LINE PERFECTS " ITS DEPOT PLANS Bancroft Gives Pleasing- News on Completion of the Preliminaries. Prelim-inaries. VICE-PRESIDENT WILLIAM it. BANCROFT of the Short Line, in a talk with The Tribune es-tcrday, es-tcrday, gave official notice of tho completion of land purchases nnd all the preliminary work Incident to the new union depot at the foot of South Temple street. Not only this, but with thc removal of tho shops and sheds from the site and thc fact that proceedings pro-ceedings In the condemnation of land will soon be accomplished, work on the 'depot proper will begin next year and rushed to completion. Many people havoybeen under the Impression Im-pression that all that was required to start this work was thc actual construction, con-struction, but the most Important part to tho railroad officials was the securing secur-ing of land and nrranglng for thc removal re-moval o the many buildings now on-fiimbering on-fiimbering thc slto. According to thc vice-president this land has been bought and the linal le-il condemnation mat-tjrs mat-tjrs arc well In hand, so that nothing now remains but tn'get tho site all cleared. The commencemen: of work on the shops at North Salt Lake ia the first step In this direction, as the rew buildings wll enable Lhe compnnv to tear down the present plant near thc local depot and thus clear away that part of the ground. The next step w ill bft the removal of the freight terminals termi-nals from their present location on the northwest corner of Third West and First South to tho southeast corner oi Fourth West ami First South. This v. ill mean that the freight, offices will, be at that corner und all freight tracks will be removed from the prei-ent location. loca-tion. The freight yard will ulso ex-lend ex-lend diagonally through the old Garfield Gar-field depot block and teams for freight Unfile will have a wide entrance to tho yards at Second South and Third West, diagonally opposite thc Cosgrlf; a are-house. are-house. Thus It tan be seen that thc freight traffic and tracking will be entirely en-tirely removed from thc new depot, which will have lis entrance at South Temple, as heretofore explained. From now on, says Mr. Bancroft, the work will be kept up and It will not be vei'y long before the reBtiltr, will be niparent. It might be added that the Short Line has. purchased a vast amount nf land in all quarters to bo effected by tV.is change and when the whole yard is perfected the terminal wiJI be ono of tho most valuable and convenient in tho intermountain country. It will tak several years to finish tho complete plan, but there wll! be no cessation until the depot, shops', freight sheds and yard trackage :tre nil rcs'dy for operation, giving to Salt Lake n terminal termi-nal for the Harrlmun sstem of which s owners and officials may well feel proud. |
