Show BIED IN HIS BERTH. Well-Kno'wn Chicago Newspaper Man Passes Away. on Train Near Indianapolis. ' i Chicago. Jan. 3. John W. Strong, a well-known newspaper man. died this . morning in his berth on board of tiro I Monon train, a short distance outside of ! Indianapolis. Death is supposed to have I been caused by heart failure. A widow ' and two sons survive him. One son is a ' cadet al West Point. Mrs. Strong and the other son live at Helena, Mont. John W. Strong was born in Rochester, Roches-ter, X. Y., in 1S51. and was a nephew of Admiral James H. Strong, U. S. N. He tillered journalism in 1874. taking service serv-ice with the Acsoclated Press In Chir cago. Two years later he vras made commercial editor of the Chicago News, and Inter became Sunday editor of the Chicago Times, which position he filled until 1S03, when he did some special work for tho Herald during tho World's fair. At the close of the fair Mr. Strong was made financial and commercial editor ed-itor of the Chicago Tribune and held that position to the time of his death. His widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Strong, left Helena tonlsrhl for Chicago, where the funeral will take place Thursday after-noon after-noon from Grace church. |
