| Show THE NEWEST lrt RAILROADS Chairman George J Gould of tho Rio Grande system has nt last publicly announced an-nounced that the SaUna cutoff will be built twenty miles of which arc nearly completed In SaUna canyon lie says It will be a short cut to reach the San Pedro A few months ago The Tribune gave the distances of the cutoff and Bhowed that via Thistle and Marysvale the Rio Grande could secure the best route to Los Angeles and that by building the cutoff from or near Green River statIon on the main line to Sa llna on the Sanpete brunch the Rio Grande would have the shortest route from Denver also A solid train could then run from Salt Lake to Los An gelca picking up the Denver cars at SaUna Senator Clark has heretofore refrained from saying that he has made a connection with any Eastern road and the Rio Grande has always bcfen regarded as a likely connection By making this connection as announced by him Mr Gould would complete his line from the Atlantic to the Pacific and establish one of the strongest of all systems It Is good newa to Utah True the Salina cutoff will not add to the trains Into this city but It will build up the State ami Salt Lake is glad to have anytTiIng done which will have such a result This city would he Indirectly benefited even if the Denver Los Angeles trains were to run via Sn linn A through line from here Is first assured In fact It Is on that which Mr Gould bases his plans for the cutoff cut-off so it will not detract one iota from Salt Lakes greatness As has been said before this city la the Rome and all trains will eventually lead hither H S Twining of Philadelphia Is welcomed wel-comed to Utah as the district superintendent superin-tendent of the Pullman company He Is an efficient and longtime employee of the company and will no doubt fill the office satisfactorily But what will be of especial Interest to the people Is the announcement that hereafter the headquarters of the district will be In Salt Lake Instead of Ogden which Is a I move In the right direction as this city Is the central point for all Pullmun service ser-vice In this region and the laundry work has always been done here Mr Twining Is assured ot a hearty welcome wel-come |
