morning at 11 oclock with the al ways Imposing ceremonies of the Catholic Cath-olic church Although the service had been announced for 11 oclock and also that the church would not be opened until after the outside dedicatory serv ices had been comuleted yet Ions be fore the hour named for services people peo-ple began to assemble and when the church doors were opened by Bishop Scanlun there were hundreds of people peo-ple in waiting The church was very quickly filled after It wns opened and fao great was the attendance that not S all could be accommodated within the walls oC tho effort and held the undivided at t S J I u tentlon of the large audience through out It was an audience composed of every class of citizens The Judge and other officials of the District court were Lagau was equal to tho occasion and his discourse was greatly appreciated appre-ciated He commented eloquently upon tho work of God besides the humblest of which the mightiest efforts of man were so small The canon thought the mountains contained more of the mag nlfllcent In architectural Idea than the most elaborate work of human skill much ns the work of the architect might be admired He traced the building of temples to God from the earliest time to the erection oC King Solomons temple where In the holy of holies reposed the Ark of the Covenant Cove-nant and where God himself made known his presence to the people and where tho presence of the Lord was a mighty demonstration of power He then compared the present edifice just being dedicated to the ancient temple tem-ple the present temple containing the presence of the Lord for the help of the people The temples of the Individual Indi-vidual the place oC the Indwelling of the spirit of man wero referred to as being places for the dwelling of the Lord and the necessity was urged of pnrsonul consecration to Gods purposes pur-poses The speaker then referred to the building of the new church as being the culmination of the plans and hopes and labors of the Rev Father Cush nuhun for the past twenty years In this work which has been the heart work of the pastor he had been nobly aided by I his parishioners and great praise IB due both pastor and people for the magnificent temple now dedicated dedi-cated to the service of God After the sermon the dedicatory ceremonies cere-monies were completed and the church turnqd over to the Rev Father Cushna han IH a consecrated place for the worship of God Among the visiting I clergy assisting Bishop Scanlan were Rev Fathers Hugh Lagau of Sacramento Cal Gunon Hopkins Morrlscy Burns and other priests from All Hallows college col-lege There were also present thirty live sisters of the various Catholic orders or-ders from Pocatello Eureka Park City the Holy Cross hospital St Anns orphanage or-phanage and St Garys academy at Salt Lake City During the singing of mass Just following fol-lowing the hcrtnon the entire complement comple-ment of electric lights in the building were turned on bringing Into plain view the shadowed portions oC the archco and the paneled calling the 7 rLr ut 9 > x electric lights following the contour ot the archeR on the side facing the altar thus adding greatly to tho beauty of the scene Services were also held In the church last night and mass at 730 a m for today was announced After the cervices at the church were over the clergy were entertained at dinner at the Weber club by a number of the lay members of the church THE NEW CHURCH is an ornament to tho city and a splendid monument to the indefatigable energy and unfailing zeal of Rev Father P 1U Cushnnhnn who for many years has been tho priest In charge of the parish I Situated on Twentyfourth street at tho corner of Adams avenue Just at tho top of tho bench the magnificent stone cdl fico overlooks the business portion of tho city and Its finely proportioned tower can readily be seen from almost any point In the city The building itsolf la of gray rough cut stone with red sand stone trimmings and with Its tower Its heavily buttressed gothic window and finely modeled entrance It Is a work of architectural beauty that attracts much I attention from visitors to tho city Tho building Is GS feet wide by G2 feet In length The entrance hall IB fifteen feet wldo tho auditorium 100 feet long and tho sanctuary 22 feet deep and 10 fcot wide Tlio auditorium lloor Is a view pleasing tothe eye If In tho daytime tho light through tho stained glass windows throws a solemn subdued light over tho Interior In beautiful bar mony with tho character of the structure If at night tho Hood of electric light brings out tho curves and relief work with Jto gliding and Its delicate tinting In a striking and beautiful manner Time Hides of the walls are done In terra cotta delicately shaded up to the high arched i roof dono In cream and gold while at the end of tho A Iew Is the sanctuary room with Us roof of sky blue and Its white and gold furniture and ornamcntb The sharplyvaulted roof of the main body of the church Is supported by ma suvo gothic selfsupporting arches which spring by curve and Jointure anglo from tho sides of the edifice and where what would church walls arches and ceiling arc dono In sheet steel the ceiling being artisti cally paneled Tho stained glass windows of the church are however ono of Its chief beauties Looking to the north whllo standing at tho entrance door at tho far end of tho church at the back of the sanctuary Is the magnificent doublo window presented to the church by Rev P M Cushnahan tho subject being The Crucifixion done In strong rich colors Following on down tho right ot tho church tho east side tho first small window Is the representation ot St Aloysius given by the little boys ojf the parish Next In order of are five halfwindows I containing the historical progression of the life of Christ Beginning at tho left Is the Annunciation presented by J F Calllhan and then following aro tho Nativity by Mrs E M Conroy St John Baptizing Christ by Mrs John Brennan tho Resurrection Morning by Mrs Farmer and the Ascension by Mrs Connors All these windows are models of their art In conception and In execution and add wonderfully to tho beauty both of tho exterior and Interior of the church The beautiful windows in tho front door were given by Miss Bessie McCarty and Miss Irene Tomas k The transom windows win-dows by I Mr T Fahcy Mr John Mc Kenna of Terrace and Mr Llndsoy Tho tower window wan presented by Mr and Mrs M 1 Moran These windows are finely fine-ly I executed and set oft nicely the entrance en-trance and the tower Tho church Itself Is built after tho plans submitted by Architect F C Woods and tho work of construction has I been under tho direct charge of Mr J P Cal 1l1lnll and the
