Opposite Poles The North and South poles not only vary In geology, temperature x and plant and animal life, but also in the number of hours of daylight and darkness in every year. At the North pole, the sun is above the horizon 188 days and below it 179 days, thus making the "day" seven days longer than the "night." At the South pole, the opposite exists, "night" being seven sev-en days longer than "day."
