| Show OPENING THE LA SALS The proposed Invasion of the mines of southeastern Utah by Coloradans by way of Durango would put the rich region of the La Sals in Grand nnd San Juan counties at the dlopoaal of our eastern neighbors The wealth to be taken thence though belonging to Utah would Inure to the benefit of Colorado and this State would loDe the handling of it and the trade would not be ourn nor would It he Included In tho reports of Utah business I Is a situation that has far from an agreeable agree-able outlook though of course It Is natural that the people In that region should welcome relief from whatever source It comes But last year the Rio Grande Western wan considering a plan to build to the L Sals and we do not know that the Idea has been given up If It has not now would be a good time to revive It and if found meritorious the welsrht of Salt Lakes business Judgment mlirht well be thrown in its favor That Is we firmly believe an unusually rich mining country it Is cxtenaUe too there Is rom for many richly productive mines I takes along a-long time to open up n great mining region whereas but little time has elapsed since any mines worth while were known to exist there Take tho grand camp of Park City for example a great mine has been producing thero for thirty years and It la only within a few brief years that the tremendous and widespread richness of the region has become manifest So that It Is not a feathers weight against the La Sal mines that they are comparatively unknown un-known and unproductive they are remote re-mote It takes cruel toll on all ores to ship them out but the new outlet to Durango will give a welcome start to many a property that but little can bo dono upon now J is I a region that It I will pay Coloradans well to open why wouldnt It pay Ulallns to step in and also take I hand |
