Show CLOSING DAY OF THE CONGRESS M As Is usual In such bodies the closing clos-ing day of the Irrigation Congress tt asa as-a crush Too much had been left over from the previous days the struggle for the next convention took more time than was expected the time limit oh b6 observed and papers could not obscl everything that had been put over struggled < for recognition and solution The result is that much was left undone un-done the teaching is that the Pro grammc should not be crowded the effort should be rather to have select and important papers delivered than mere numbers which only crowd tho programme and < have a tendency to detract de-tract from the attention properly devoted de-voted to the discussions that are really worth while There were plenty of them for a weeks continuous session at the least but some of them could not find place All will be seen in the ofil chil report of the proceedings however and this year that volume will be of marked interest and the demand for it V will be great We are much gratified see that the Congress unanimously tendered its presidency ngnln to Senator W A Clark who did so much to make this I Congress the immense success that It was It was his happy idea in offering the oUO silver I cup as a prize for the best fruit exhibit which brought together to-gether tho wonderful and cnonnoun display of fruit seen in connection with the Congress and which led to the offering of-fering of three other such cups for the best sugar beets the best barley and the best hops lie had served but a few months but his incumbency was brilliant Ills reelection undoubtedly is a source of strength the Irrigation Irriga-tion Congress El Paso won the contest for the next session It was not is happy a choice as could have been made Boise would have been far more appropriate and more central to the irrigated area and to the operations of the Government officials engaged in the work of reclamation recla-mation under the new national irrigation irriga-tion law But perhaps the delegates thought that Idaho had won honor I enough In capturing the Clark cup for the best fruit exhibit The resolutions were long and the fight on them was warm and prolonged On some things contained we believe Unit the Congress would have done well to express no opinion Hut the pressure for the recognition of Ideas and notions no-tions was exceedingly strong and all extraneous matter could not be kept out The ultimate decision could not be expected to be uniformly sound not to say excellent But of one thing there is no manner of doubt that is the grand success of the Congress And every one was enthusiastic en-thusiastic the feeling was admirable the disposition of the delegates was goodnatured and happy So all passed oft to the glory 01 Ogden the fame of Utah and the pleasure of the immensely immense-ly large attendance |
