tIle past week Besides winning In a walk the contest for the most unique display in the parade on Wednesday the Park people made a big hit with the visiting Elks yesterday yester-day by l entertaining under their own vine and fig tree The excursion lo the t mining camp assumed unexpectedly large proportions propor-tions and the railroad company kept adding car after I car to the modest little train originally provided until there was a grand lineup of eight passenger coaches and two cnjilncs all the cars helm packed to their fullest capacity Just before the train started a m telephone tele-phone message was sent to Mayor Evans at Park City telling him what to expect There was IL deal of scurry Ing In the next hour or 1 so but everything every-thing was In readiness by 11 oclock RECEPTION AT PARK When the special arrived a halfhour later and dumped Its I loud of 500 people on the platform there I was a reception committee stationed at the depot to direct di-rect the visitors to the telks1 lodge rooni In this chamber were soon seated seat-ed as many of the strangers as could find room and a lot of busy Parklles began banding out beer and ginger ale and sandwiches In overwhelming quantities quan-tities A few minutes later u long line of rigs was drawn up before the headquarters head-quarters I and every visiting Rill was allowed to take his choice of lie sights of the Silver I King the Daly West 01 the Ontario About si hundred decided upon the Silver King and the procession of carriages car-riages moved up the hill to Lbo mine The entire plant was placed at the disposal Daly West company had not been notified of the coming of the visitors and no preparations prepara-tions had been made for their reception recep-tion But that didnt make any difference differ-ence Chef Lee Jake and his assistants Immediately sCt to work and by the time the tourists were ready to leave I the sights of the mine luncheon was ready and waiting for them in the boardinghouse None of the rater rained had the slightest reason to believe be-lieve that their coming v us unexpected unex-pected A few members of the party drove up the canyon to the Ontario mine where they were entertained in the same manner and shown the sights of the mine by Foreman Matt Connelly FIXED FOR FUTURE FAMINES Many 1 who had to catch through trains at Salt Lake returned on the regular local at 125 but about halt the party waited for the special I at 5 i oclock They spent the time in the Elks clubhouse trying to stave off the hospitality of the Park people who seemed bent upon providing their guests against the possible famines of the next year If all the sandwiches and beverages offered had been consumed con-sumed by the visiting Ivlks none of them would have any further need of eating for a any day of the big reunion morr than yesterdays trip For most of them it was a unique experience and 4 one that will be remembered all their lives To the average Easterner I the boundless hospitality of the West Is I homolhing of a marvel and that hospitality hos-pitality was never bettor exemplified than at Park City Koffiln but the best was good enough for the guests and no visitor was allowed lo spend a cent beyond his railroad fare something some-thing that might he pondered over by certain merchants In Salt Lake City The excursion to Tlntlc over the Oregon Ore-gon Short Line was given up
