Show THE STATE PRISON At the State prison there have been many Improvements made during the year A new mlhistratlon building new gateway trusty house and cement walks are among the improvements which have contributed to the making of CL model prison of Utahs penllcn lintY Although there are 112 prIsoners behind the bars of the jail not one escape es-cape has been recorded during the year although there was at least one attempt nt escape Three prisoners have been lost by deatll The library Is now as complete ns the library boasted of by any of thc noted prisons mOle than a hundred volumes having been added to the book lists during dur-Ing the year The library fund has been increased by 5750 through contributions from visitors and tills money will be used In the purchase of more books when needed Librarian Alex Robertson Robert-son Is In charge or the library While there have been no executions during the year several are set to take place In the near future FIve men lire now confined to cells In death row under un-der sentence c3Pdeath The prisoners are Nlclc Haworlh Robert King James Lynch Feter lforlcnscn and Charles Bolita The one last named was to have been executted last Monday Mon-day but was granted a respite by the Board of Pardons Haworths execution execu-tion Is set for next month There arc twentfie other convIcted murderers In the prison serving from five to thirty years Two other convicted murderers arc out on parole Fifteen guards are employed to keep the prisoners In check These men arc arranged In two shifts of twelve hours each Warden Dow Is In charge and Is assisted by Deputy Warden Wright and Chief Clerk Stowe The expenses oC the jail for the past two years including Improvements amount to 77000 |
