Show JEFFERSON BLAME If He Had Never Lived Local Democrats Would Not Now Have Trouble Over Celebration of His Birthday The Jefferson Democrats of Salt Lake are torn Into two Warring factions the trouble growing out of the effort to have a celebration of the day To make the situation that much worse the nn Demounts are consolidated In one of the factions nnd the Democratic vcornon In the other In the beginning It was decided by the Utah Democratic club that none but men would be permitted per-mitted at the banquet und that It would be made a swell affair T No women need apply was the legendthat was to be put over the Commercial club door leading Into the banquet hall Committees were appointed and all arrangements ar-rangements made on this basis Just at this point Is where the storm broke forth The women were snubbed and they knew It At the meeting of I the Womans Democratic club on Vcdnesday there were some withering volleys fired Into the Utah Democratic club The good women took the positIon posi-tIon that they knew as much about Jefferson as did their brothers that hey were just us much Interested In the promulgation of his principles that hey have Just as much right to cclc irate his birthday Before the close of the meeting It was decided that the women would uive a Jefferson day celebration of their own and that they would show these men Democrats a few things Ar rangements have been made to have a sociable ut the home of Mrs II J Hayward Hay-ward with a programme runninG from S till 11 In the evening The pro gramme will Include songs music brief speeches and refreshments All good Democrats women as well as men will be Invited The committee having In charge the arrangements for the regular Jefferson banquet announce that lOt will be present pres-ent that toasts will be responded to by exSenator Rawlins Judge Henderson Judge Varlnn James H Moylc SlmOn Bambergcr John W Burton Judge Le Grand Young and R TV Sloan of Salt Lake S R Tliurnutn and V E rty dalch of Provo T D Johnson of Ogden Og-den and F 1C Ncbeker of Logan In addition to the toasts an anticipated scene will l be given from the Democratic national convention of 1001 Including the nomination of six or eight Presi delntlal candidates by local spellbinders spellbind-ers SUPPCI is scheduled to begin at S oclock speaking at 9 and the whole affair fair will be over to permit catching the last cars S |
