presented In two delightfully Interesting papers one on Modern t Painting by Mrs A C KuSng Uic other on Modern Illustrating by Mrs Silberstein Mrs Ewlnj gave u brief outline of the three periods of art pagan mythical and Christian bull bul-l chiefly with the HKO of art in the nineteenth century and tJie artists who have Illustrated the poetry of their nations na-tions Of the modern American artists Whistler was mentioned as one who hud done more to purge art from vice of subject than any other living artist The paper was exceptionally good showing the writerK great familiarity with the subject in htind nnd It was handled in the charming way characteristic I charac-teristic of all papers presented by her Numerous reproductions of the masterpieces i master-pieces of art of all apes added much to the Interest of the address The paper by Mrs Silbersteln was scarcely less interesting than the one presented by Mrs Ewing dealing as it did with the art of Illustrating which has become so Important a feature of the books magazines ma-gazines nnd papers of The day This talk also was Illustrated by the use I of numerous drawings and halftones The Sovlewers r At the meeting of the Reviewers on Monday last Mrs John Cain gave avery a-very interesting account of a trip made by her through the Yellowstone park last summer The other paper1 of the day was one < read by Mrs Hal Brown on Some Colonial Homes The next j meeting of the club will be an open one to be mild at the home of Mrs Hal Brown The topic of the day is Walter Beeant and It will be pret nl ed by Mrs Plummor L i Poets Bound Table I Mr J D Spencer entertained the members of the Poets Bound Table it their meeting on Monday afternoon Thomas Bailey Alilrlch was the poet of I the day and a biography of him was read by Mrs RIm IIna Mrs David E Ilemnhlll read his poem Judas and HoIoferncH Mrs Sanford was chairman chair-man of the day The next regular nhc ting of the club will be held at the home of Mrs Kcrrlek Cowpers poems will be discussed and Mrs J D Spencer r will be chairman of the day Play by the French Section A number of friends of members of the French section were guests at the home of Mrs John F Cowan on Tuesday I Tues-day last l and thoroughly enjoyed 4Jie I programme presented by the section I There vere two plays La Judgment I de Madame Salomon and La Morte Anx Rats both of which were enthusiastically t enthu-siastically received The pleasure of the afternoon was added to by the piano iolo given by Mrs Peabody the I I French songs by Miss Florence Robinson Robin-son and Mrs Ira Lewis and the t readIng read-Ing in French Mips Irene Eckis by entitled I I en-titled Lee Aduis de Marie Stuart I The home of Mrs Cowan uas artistically I artistic-ally decorated with cut flowers and at I the close of the play members and guests enjoyed a dell clouD luncheon I Daughters of Utah Pioneers Mrs Anna T Hyde was hostess at the last regular meeting of the Daughters Daugh-ters of Utah Pioneers The attendance attend-ance at this meeting was unusually largo and the guests very much en joyed the programme which Included an 1 address on Utah Pioneers by Ne phi Pratt a paper on the life of C C Rich by Mrs Pratt and charming I musical numbers by Miss Jane Mackin tosh and Arthur Shepherd Tho Cleofcm Some Streets in London was the tonjc of a most interesting talk given at the last meeting oC the Cleofan by Mrs Seiden I Clawson A map of all the streets mentioned was show by Mrs Clawson which enabled the listeners lis-teners to follow the speaker with the greater Interest The talk was also Illustrated Il-lustrated by l the use of pictures of the buildings statues parks etc of the famous old city The next meeting of the club will be held at the home of Mrs Wells on Tuesday when Miss Cul mcr will present a paper on Bulwer Lyl tOil Club Notes Members of the music and home and education sections of the Ladles Literary Liter-ary club are very much interested in the lecture to be given by Mrs Charles Rhodes In this city on March 31st It will be an evening with Wagner illustrated illus-trated by means of cqlored stereopticon views and some of Wagners most glorious glo-rious music will bo played by Adolph Glosg who accompanies Mrs Rhodes as pianist Mrs Rhodes fame as a lecturer Is known to many clubwomen of Salt Luke who have already had the pleasure of hearing her and who are looking forward wlth more than ordinary or-dinary interest to the entertainment which has just been arranged to be given in this city S MembersoC the Home Culture club I of SprltigvHIc are worthy of the highest praise for the efforts they have made to fill a case of books l for the free traveling trav-eling library They not only went without with-out the regular printed programmes for the year in order that they might do this but have given several entertainments enter-tainments for the purpose of raising the necessary funds Now word domes that the caae wlll soon be ready and will be filled almost entirely with books of travel with a few histories books of fiction and Juvenile volumesV Word also comes from CoalvIIle that the S B Lf a club of only eight or ten active members will soon have a case filled with good books ready to be rent out to the various towns of the State where reading j matter of all kinds is prized by the inhabitant The Ladles Literary club of ManU has Just donated another 5 toward the free traveling library movement making In all 810 and a case of books given by that active little club In the past three years Mrs William A Nelden chairman of the free traveling library committee of the federation hat just returned from the East where she has spent the past Iwo months among relatives and friends During her absence the work of the committee has been in charge of Mrs David E Hemphill At the < next meeting but one of the Ladles Literary club the decision will bo made in the original story contest cash prizes for which were offered at the opening of the club year < i C The tourist section of the Ladies Literary Lit-erary club will meet on Tuesday morning morn-ing at 10 oclock Mrs Fenton will rend a paper on The Physical Features and Industries of Switzerland and there will be five minute talks on ZwlngH by members of the section II Mrs J C E King will entertain the members of the College club on Thursday Thurs-day afternoon at her home 74 P street u The music section of the Ladies Llt cry club met with Mrs Putnam on Thursday morning MacDowell was the composer for the day On Thursday afternoon the regular monthly meeting of the Parliamentary club wan held at the Ladies Literary clubhouse Owing to the Illness of Mrs Armstrong Arm-strong the meeting of the Womans club which was to have been held on
