| Show NO INQUIRY INTO INSECT TROUBLES 1NiAN1ETEJNTY I The Agricultural Department Cannot Spare Man HOPPERS WILL HOLD SWAY Efforts Made to Bring itfr Simpson Simp-son to State He Is an Authority on Question of Grasshoppers but He Will Soon Leave the Service TRIBUNE BUREAU BUREAUt 13 Postal Telegraph Bldg Washington D C May IB r The suggestion of the Intcrmountain Farmer last week of the advisability having an expert of the Department of Agriculture investigate the Sanpete grasshoppers has been followed by a letter to that department from Senator Kearns urging action It appears now that it will be imporalblo for the department de-partment to assign an expert for the I purpose this summer on account of lack I of men competent to do the work It was thought that C B Simpson the entomologist who spent a little time studying the Kaman prairie Ida grasa hoppers last year might be sent to Utah but he will resign his position chortly to accept a flattering proposition proposi-tion from the Transvaal Government thus leaving our Government shorthanded short-handed In the entomological line SIMPSON AN IDAHO MAN Mr SlmpEon by the way is an Idaho Ida-ho man who has gone rapidly to the front since he commenced studying insects in-sects for Uncle Sam and recently when the Transvaal Government asked Prof L O Hoard chief entomologist of the Agricultural department to recommend an expert for their service he nominated nomi-nated Mr Simpson who was immediately imme-diately offered a position worth nearly 5000 a year and expenses He has accepted ac-cepted the offer and expects to leave for Pretoria about July let PAPER ON THE SUBJECT Proto Howard thinkn there will be less danger from grasshoppers In Utah this year than last for the reason that there IK more moisture Grasshoppers thrive bolt r in dry seasons He has however In view of Senator Kcarnss letter asked Mr Simpson to write a paper on tho subject and this will ohortly bo printed and sent to anyone Interested In the matter upon request to the division of publications Agricultural Agricul-tural department |
