| Show EMPLOYERS3 LEAGUE New York Employers in Building Trades Organize to Fight tho Labor TJnions New York May J6The first stops toward effecting a general organization of employers In the building trades for tho purpose of offering united resistance to the demands of the labor unions wero taken tonight at meetings held in Manhattan Man-hattan and Brooklyn Tho meeting In Manhattan was held In tho Building Trades club 700 employers being present and the throng being so great that overflow meetings were held In tho various aaacmblyrooma of tho club Tho mooting was private and at UB close the following statement was given out as tho sentiment of tho various speakers Tho complete paralysis of the building Industry has been brought about by Irresponsible ir-responsible combinations acting through a tyrannical board of walking delegates or business agents which demand prompt and energetic action by all good citizens who have the welfare of our great city at heart It Is I limo that the decent and order loving mechanic asserts himself and de lies thc arbitrary demagogue who ties his hands and drowns his voice Tho delegate Is a parasite on the body politic to bo exterminated It waa pointed out that this is not a question of wages or hours but a question ques-tion of whether tho irresponsible bodies of men are to bo permitted to conduct tho buslniflrt of the employer and in soloing so-loing mako It impossible for him to cx ccuto his contracts and to discharge tho obligations and responsibilities which ho aesumos and to which the courts and tho law of the land bind him The extremes to which the unions have descended and tho manner in which they have repeatedly broken contracts with thfir employers havo alienated from them tho sympathy of tho public In Brooklyn 100 employers met and formed tho Employers league of the Borough Bor-ough of Brooklyn It was resolved to permit no Interference with business ban b-an individuals or organizations and that no walking delegates should be permitted to enter any shop during working hours |
