Show STONE WALL AROUND SALTAIR Solution Offered for the Problem at the Grert Resort WorX to Be Done at the Close of the Season I A stone wall around Snltalr to put a I stop to the encroachments of the snarl and to Insure a good body of water for all time to come la the solution of the great resort problem that meets with the most favor with the member of the Saltalr company at this time Definite steps are to be taken after the season closes this fall to overcome the difficulties dif-ficulties thai have arisen One proposition proposi-tion mibmltted Is to dredge the lake iround the pavilion Another is to construct con-struct a pier out into deep water and run electric cars out for the benefit of the batheiB Tim third Is the construction construc-tion of the stone xv all There arc serious objections lo all three and It Is assumed as-sumed that all will be thoroughly discussed dis-cussed before action Is taken Involving a large expenditure of money The proposition to construct the wall around the resort is I a new one and while It meets with much favor it has not been sifted In all Its hearings The Idea Is to Inclose an area of about ten acres with the pavilion In the center so that there would be good bathing on all sIdes of Snltalr lhe engineers who have Investigated the matter hold that It would not be necessary to go down Into the sand over two feet with the wall and that the cost would not be overwhelming This basin Is then to be dredged to the required depth and the water Is to be pumped In to keep It continually fresh and clean The plaji Includes the pumping hi from the lake of 18000 gallons of water each minute or 25000000 gallons every twentyfour hours No definite figures have yd been submitted on this proposition but they arc being prepared and will be carefully consldoied before any action is taken on any of the propositions under consideration consider-ation The objection to the construction of the long pier and the operation of the electric line for the transfer of the bttlJicrs Is 1 that It would he very expensive expen-sive and that In time it would leave the pavilion high and dry on the sand and that when this iliac came the I pavilion I pa-vilion would be a very hot place and not especially clean The objection to the dredging proposition IH that It would be but a temporary expedient that f the sand would drift back In i about as rapidly aa It was dredged out and thai In the end the process ould be very expensive The moving of the entire en-tire pavilion out to the deep water Is too large an undertaking to be seriously serious-ly considered at thus time All Interested In the resort realize that something must be done and done promptly Without good bathing Salt air will be absolutely dend Realizing this the principal men Interested In a financial way proposu to take up the matter this fall after the close of tho neason and solve the problem The work will he started this fall for two reasons one Is that the water will he very low situ admit of work that could nol well be done when the water is higher another reason Is that the company com-pany intends to he prepared lo open on limo next summer with the resort more attractive than it has been In ycara |
