Show I THE RIGHT USE OF WATER There Is on view at the Irrigation Congress H most Interesting exhibit from the Utah Expeilment Station on the proper and most profitable use of wates for irrigation Its lesson is em phatln and conclusive on the point that less water than has usually been considered con-sidered necessary in tho raising of crops will produce better yields than the larger use There Is shown to l > can c-an ascending ratio from a too limited supply OL Irrigation water to a sufficient suffi-cient supply l for maximum yields and < 1 when this proper amount has been de let mined the application of additional water causes a decline in yield on a descending scale The demonstration seems absolutely conclusive so far as the watering of tim soil experimented upon Js concerned and the leasonable probability is that like results would be shown on any soil This demonstration should be of enormous enor-mous benefit to Utah It will allow of the material Increase of land under tillage till-age without increase of the watcr supply sup-ply Thus It is shown that with thirty acrcflnchcs of water enough water to cover nn acre thirty Inches deep it is I better and more profitable to use the writer on three acres giving ten Inches to the acre In sugar beets and in oats und wheat the demonstration In I even more conclusive that with a given supply sup-ply of water it is best to bring Into tillage till-age more land than to apply the water to a lesser acreage It is a most thorough and admirable setting forth of experiments of the very i highest practical value to the farmers I of Utah and also of nil the arid States for we presume like conditions and excessive ex-cessive use of water generally prevail And it is i an admirable occasion on which to show these results when practical prac-tical irrigators from all over the arid region will be there to see |
