were given a drive to the Utah Slate School for the Deaf Dumb and Blind and then through Ogden canyon can-yon anti Ogden valley the t site of the proposed great reservoir arriving at the city in time for the banquet In the evening Mayor Glasinann tool charge of the party which consisted of twentyeight of the correiipomlents one of theln 11 Rutherford Corbln of the Cincinnati ISnquIrer being 111 In Salt Lake Secretary Secre-tary Wilson Senator Smoot State Engineer En-gineer Doremus Col Trirrnbo David Eccles the Government engineers delegates del-egates and invited guests were also In the party I I The first stop was at the State I school Here Mi Doremus took the party over the cana Is which water the grounds of the school explaining to them the system of irrigation used there and the new devices which are used In the work Along the route the visitors discovered discov-ered a peach orchard the trees of which carried a good crop and the newspaper men forgot Irrlcavion and scattered among the trees After filling fill-ing Uieir pockets they were loaded up and started for the canyon They were loud in their praise of the beauties of the drive and expressions or delight were pun-ishing I a Rocky Mountain highball apiece and equipping themselves with a good Havana Ihey resumed their Journey 6 The next stop was at Rirles Point a hlirli knoll about half a mile north of Hides residence In Ogden valley This wns I the end of the Journey and had been planned by the committee on entertainment en-tertainment to combine business with pleasure This is the site of the proposed pro-posed great reservoir and after calling all of the visitors to the top of the hill where they could view the situation situa-tion State Engineer Doremus proceeded pro-ceeded to explain I the proposed project to the visitors He called their attention to the fact that by damming the mouth of Ogden canyon at an estimated cost of a half jnllllon n mammoth lake could be constructed con-structed that would provide 60000 acre feet of water enough to water the whole of northern Utah The expense of such an undertaking vas more than any Individual could bear hence their appeal to the Government for aid The return Journel waa then begun the only stop lIng at the Hermitage where genial Billy Wilson had prepared pre-pared a feast fit for the gods and had it steaming hot ready for the boys when they arrived The variety of delicacies was too numerous to mention but mountain trout mountain grouse venison ven-ison and chicken were on the bill The newspaper men were more than de lighted at the magnificent reception tendered them and time and again gave three cheers and a tiger for Wilson Secretary Wilson arrived too late togo to-go to the reservoir site but partook of the feast and returned to Ogden Mayor Glasinann presided l at thc table and toasts were responded to by Mr JIowland oC the New York Mall and II Express Charles W Pen rose o the Deseret News Tames F Henry of the I Philadelphia Press whose response was In the shape of a song on Irrigation Irriga-tion Senator Carey Edward S Little ot the Los Angeles Times John Henry Smith Jesse CarmIchael o the Detroit Journal and other papers Senator Reed Smoot and Mine Host Billy Wilson who was dragged Into the room by a delegation dele-gation of the newspaper men After Wilson had concluded Mr Henry and the rest of the boys sang a catchy song entitled Mr Ion in which they depicted their host ar about the best man on earth The guests were then all Introduced to Mrs Wilson shown about the grounds of the Hermitage Hermi-tage and then departed for Ogden Another song sung by Mr Henry inset in-set to the tune of Mr 1 Dooley Mr 1 Henry the famous correspondent of the Philadelphia Press sings the verse and
