Show I FROWN ON DIVORCE Clergymen of New England Form a Trust Against tho Marriage of Separated Couples Providence R I Dec Clergymen of Rhode Island headed by the Right Rev W W McVIckar Episcopal bishop bish-op who have been endeavoring for years to have the State divorce laws amended have entered < into an agreement agree-ment regarding the matter of marrying divorced persons Out of G50 clergymen In the State more than 200 have agreed to make it as difficult as possible for divorced persons to remarry and to I treit all questions of marriage and divorce di-vorce In such a way as to advance interdenominational in-terdenominational comity I Of the number signing the agreement 5Ixt three ministers will refuse to marry mar-ry a person of another denomination than their own who have been divorced di-vorced and who could not marry again according to the ecclesiastical laws of that denomination eighteen agree not to marry a person who has been divorced di-vorced for any cause In cases where i divorce has been granted for unfaithfulness unfaith-fulness 115 ministers declare they will only solemnize the marriage of the innocent In-nocent party |
