Show DR HYATT LOST CONTROL Storm That Ho Was Not Looking for Breaks Over the City and Valley Following a day of sultriness though without extreme heat a lain storm accompanied ac-companied by considerable electrical disturbance dis-turbance broke over tho city about o oclock last evening There was quite 11 high wind when the storm began but this soon subsided and for about nn hour the rain foil steadily greatly refreshing tho earth and cooling tho atmosphere At 0 ocloqk tho sky was clear again nnd the evening was ono of tho most pleasant of the season Though there walt very little thunder and lightning during the progress of the storm yet the Invlelblfr electric currents which tilled tho atmosphere played havoc for the time being with electric wires and tho power station which feed them The Utah Light and Power company seemed to bo the worst sufferer Its lights and power having been shut oft temporarily tem-porarily In nil parts of the city the most serious Inconvenience probably having resulted re-sulted from the stopping of the elevators In 1 several of the largo buildings After urn storm was over I however it was found that no real dainaco had been done everything having started to running run-ning smoothly again as soon as tho play I of the elements was over The streetcar street-car line Buffered no Inconvenience whatever I what-ever The storm 11 appears cannot be claimed as tho product of tho government weather service the local bureau having failed to predict It except In so far as tho statement state-ment unsettled weather might betaken be-taken to cover almost any kind of disturbance dis-turbance that might be turned loose Alight A-light nprlnkle of rain was recorded at I oclock yesterday morning although tln remainder of the day was clear until nearly 1 In tho afternoon when a bank of black clouds In the vosl told of tho approaching storm The minimum temperature tem-perature of the day van 63 the maximum bl tho latter having been recorded at 3 V m The lightning put tim elevator In the city and county building out of commission commis-sion and thoso who lnltcd tho public offices on the upper Hours In the afternoon after-noon were obliged to take to the stairs One of the first lImbos of the electric fluid found tho wire that supplies the motive power of the elevator There wns a terrible rumble n burst of light and the cage was stationary Th large fuses In the cutouts were consumed In an Instant In-stant The lightning also burned out the fuses on the light lInes and during the darkest hour of the storm there was but little light In any of the offices The lights however were gotten Into service again but the engineer of the building had his hands full getting the elevator under way |
