Show SUGAR EXPERTSTO WASHINGTON Three Young Utah Men Called to Waverly to Put a NonPaying NonPay-ing BeetSugar Plant on a Paying Basis Lchl March lOT R Cutler Jr B R Smoot and W L Webb three of Utahs young sugar experts will leavei In about ten days to assume charge of the Washington Slate Sugar companys factory at Waverly Washington Mr Cutler will act as superintendent Mr Smoot ns head foreman and Mr Webb as head chemist All three are young men and were born and reared In Utah T R Cutler Jr is a son of Manager Cutler of the Utah Sugar company and was born In Lehl twentyseven years ago Excepting for one year which time was spent In the employ of Allan and Frazier of Chicago Installing automatic au-tomatic lIre extinguishers for them In Illinois Indiana and Kentucky Mr Cutler has been In the employ of the Utah Sugar company Commencing In the companys machine shops at the J < hI factory he has familiarized himself him-self with every part of sugar making and sugarmaking machinery and last season acted as foreman under Superintendent Super-intendent J H Gardner Probably no young sugar maker In Utah has had such a thorough and practical training B R Smoot Is a Provo product and IB a son of a Utah pioneer Hon A O Smoot He Is a graduate of Harvard and his thorough knowledge of mechanical me-chanical engineering and chemistry together with the practical experience obtained last year In the employ of the Utah Sugar company at Lchl will enable en-able him to materially assist In mak ing the Waverly plant a financial suc cess Excepting for a brief time as assayer for Jesse Knight and the year with thq Utah Sugar company Mr Smoot since leaving 1 Harvard hog been In thc employ of the Dcarbourne Chemical company of Chicago with his headquarters at Denver Colo He is 23 years of uge Walter L Webb who will act as chemist was born In Lehi thirtytwo years ago and Is a son of Hon George Webb publisher and editor of the Lehl Banner Ho Is a graduate of the Brigham Young academy of Provo Three jeara since leaving school has been spent as a teacher in the public schools four years as editor of tho Lchi Banner two years In Europe and four years In the sugar business Dur ing the season of 1S9S ho was night chemist at tho Lehl factory In 1S90 he was chomlst for the same company at Sprlngvllle next year he acted as agricultural expert for the American Beet Sugar company at Rocky Ford Colo and last year served In tho same capacity for the Great Western Sugar company at Greeley Colo The Waverly plant Is a 350ton fac tory and Is owned by D C Corbln of Spokane Wash As yet It has never been a financial success but Mr Cut ler who returned l yesterday from an Inspection of tho plant says that he has absolutely no doubt but that with a few minor changes and Improve ments he can make It return good divi dends to Its ownor |
