Show OFFICIAL FIGURES GIVEN Exact Distances of the Great Lucin Cutoff i The Railway Age of Chicago contains con-tains the first official figures on the t Lucin cutoff It says William Hood C E San Francisco Informs us that the cutoff from Ogden Utah across the Great Salt Lake to Lucin will be I 0 1 1014 miles In length The portion over the lake will be 267 miles long of which 111 miles will be trestle work Heretofore the distance has been given p at from 102 to 105 miles and the length of the trestle was figured on the distance from shore to shore Now it appears that In addition to the grading on land there will bo considerable consid-erable track laid on a solid filledln embankment In the lake The distance dis-tance to be filled In Is shown to be loG miles This work will presumably be done from Strongs knob at Gunnlcon A island at both sides of the Promontory Promon-tory and from the Ogden shore Tle great reduction In the length l of the trestles will make the work less difficult diffi-cult but none the less Interesting The exact saving In distance over the present line will be 1110 miles |
