afforded another striking example ex-ample of the tenacity of the perseverance persever-ance of the miner who has worked and hung on as assurances and reassurances that n railroad was coming to him and that he should have an outlet for his outet output only to find himself at Its close reliant upon the same old means Since the early sixties has he embraced em-braced these broken promises and worked on I was by the overflow from Virginia City from Pioche from Austin during the thrilling periods of those camps that Deep Creek and Is multifarious districts was first peopled peo-pled and uhile owing to many disadvantages dis-advantages systematic deelopment has been limited at no period since the prospector stuck the first pick into It nearly forty years ago has there been a cessation of development of some a ccsatol kind ACTIVITY OF 1003 The J campaign within its camps during dur-ing the past twelve months has been the most energetic In many years perhaps per-haps The organization of the San Pedro railway its acquisition of local branches of the Oregon Short Line and the cordiality with which its founders were supported by the people of the entire en-tire commonwealth induced those of Dcep Creek to believe that finally they were to be taken out of the wilderness wilder-ness This ray of hope was elixir that stimulated them to their utmost and with It ever prosent they have labored with unprecedented zeal that they might receive the railroad with a piece of revenue While Its trades have not yet reached them they have relinquished re-linquished a belief that it will and as during the past year development will enter the new I Is naid that within with-in its camps are C half thousand mines and prospects that could with transportation between them and the smelters oC Salt Lake valley begin the production of ore while with the shriek of the locomotive systematic Ole would be Inaugurated on as many more ITS METALLIC RESOURCES I Is said of the camps of Deep Creek that they are productive of all the minerals that have been found in any ti0t + t0f i + 0 + other region That sliver and lead and copper and gold occur there Is positive and that they occur in commercial quantity Is reflected In the dividends that have Issued from some of the mines In the bullion record which has been made by others In addition to these metals Iron Is found In great volume while marble has been brought from with samples of salt and sulphur And when Deep Creek Is tapped by rail all these will have found a market In the world without UTAH OF FISH SPRINGS The only one of Deep Creeks propositions from which there came n steady tonnage of ore and from which Its Interests were 7cnnlttcd to draw down dividends during the year was the Utah of Fish Springs whose shareholders share-holders received SSOOO with a grand total of 303000 its ores to which frequent fre-quent reference Is made consisting of highgrade lead and silver Its operations opera-tions during the year have been quite extensive while the ledge which has been opened up to greater depths affords every Indication of permanency While operations at the Galena by which the Utah Is adjoined and from which the shareholders have received 570000 In dividends have been no less energetic the campaign has been devoted de-voted more to a search for new ore bodies than to extraction with the out 1 doss put at this time quite favorable to suc J SOME OTHER CAMPS At Dugway there has been considerable consider-able development in 1003 the results disclosed In time presence highgrade silver and lead ores and where i George L Moats of tho Four Metals J 13 Thompson and officials company J 1hom50n ofclnls of the San Pedro railway are doing I considerable work At Clifton there has also boon considerable con-siderable activity In this locality is the Midas mill and mines 0 goldbear ing group owned by James Chipman f and John Dora of this city and the Lucy L property or Wilson Bros r while Duncan MacVIchie general man aager of the Bingham Con with Herman Her-man Greene rind others have long had their faith pinned to n group The Queen of Shcba mines In the same widespread region has done noti + + 0 + 0 e + 0 + a little to Invite attention to the presence pres-ence of gold within It as has the Cane Springs group which was profitably operated many years ago SALT LAKE REPRESENTED The work in Deep Creek up to the present has been prosecuted almost entirely en-tirely by l local mining men and investors In-vestors Much money has gone Into the region from Salt Lake from Provo Ogden and neighboring towns and while the day of reimbursement has been delayed not one but has a sincere belief In the ultimate productiveness o territory Into which their moneys have Eoyc With a railway indeed most liberal production Is promised by those who have continued to dig through all the years GIANT OF DEEP CREEK The New York Giant company is developing de-veloping n valuable gold property on the south end of tin Deep Creek range located about thirteen miles southwest of Callas on the south side of Granite creek 0 beautiful mountain stream which would furnish ample power for mill and electricity The main developments consist of nn incline 175 feet in depth with a vein continuous from the surface with ave contnuous rage values of 10 gold per ton while in the last work In the face of the Incline In-cline a nice ell of 21 I oh ore four feet In width was exposed About 1000 feet from this Incline is an 1 Immense blowout of fifty to seventyfive feet wide which has the veins cut by tun nels and shafts exposing many thousands thou-sands ol1 tons of orc assaying about 7 per ton This is at present developing develop-ing into one of the finest showings for a mine In all this vast mining section having nn ideal location with ample water power fine climate and of easy access by wagon Developments are In progress and a mill will soon be constructed con-structed at the mine This company also has another group o claims in Clifton district adjoining the Lucy L claim in which the sensational strike of copper ore Is just reported The company places great Importance upon its property In this district as It is one of proJ richest districts in the Deep Creek region and the ledges plainly exposed ex-posed give ovary evidence of permanency I perma-nency and good values with development develop-ment |
