Show WOULD NOT USE ROSEWATER Gen Punston Does Not Believe in Subjugating Filipinos by Mild Sprinkling Kansas City Mo Jan SGen Frederick Funston arrived here today from San Francisco After a consultation consul-tation with his physician 1 he will con tinue on to lola Ian the home of his parents for a brief visit He appeared ap-peared in good health Gen Funston made the trip to Kansas Kan-sas City alone and arrived unannounced unan-nounced He soon sought out his physician phy-sician and submitted to an examination examina-tion of the wound from which he has experienced trouble lately Whether or not another operation would be necessary ne-cessary the physician was not ready to tale saying that it might be two or hree days before that question could be determined In the meantime Gen Funston said he would remain in Kansas Kan-sas City resting quietly He expressed himself as feeling perfectly per-fectly well He said that after undergoing under-going treatment here and visiting his jarents J he would return West In time to take a transport for Manila early In February His leave of absence expires ex-pires MarchlOth J V Gen Funstnn In an interview with a reporter said of the Investigation conducted in Washington recently regarding re-garding the killing of two Filipinos Thp investigation of Gen Melcalfe Is In the nature of thrashing over a matter mat-ter already settled The whole thing Is based on an allldavlt made by Private Iluskey formerly of the Kansas regiment regi-ment Iluskey swore that he saw Met cnlfe shoot unarmed prisoners That was in March in ISO In March 1900 1Iuskey appeared before a board of army officers appointed ap-pointed I to Imesllgale Melcalfes connection con-nection with the affair Here he staled that the previous allldavit was secured from him by a Kansas officer after the latter had gotten him drunk Huskpy said that he signed a paper but had no knowledge of Its contents This was the affidavit upon which the charge against Melcalfe was based He denied every statement made In the afliilavit at the hearing in March 1900 Gen Funston was indignant at the hint of a reprimand from the Senate for Gen Whealon He reviewed Gen Whealons long career and said that he did not believe in subjugating the Filipinos by sprinkling them with rose ater |
