Show SANTA FE TROUBLES 4 Vicepresident Barr Talks of Meeting t With Men Chicago Dec According to a statement Issued tonight by J M Barr vicepresident of the Santa Fe Railroad company the committee composed of the different rallroad trainmen organ iza Ions who have taken up the grievances of the striking telegraphers consider the strike a mistake and at tomorrows confeience to be held herewith here-with the officials of the Santa Fe nothing but the reemployment of the telegraphers will be requested from the company Mr Barrs statement follows A committee consisting of the system sys-tem chairman of o tlie engineers firemen fire-men conductors and brakemen has asked for a meeting with me in oroVr Ito I-to urge that the utmost consideration be shown by the company toward the telegraph operators who recently quit work on our system under strike order in the matter of reemployment reemploy-ment The gentlemen composing this committee as representing the employees em-ployees named do not sympathize s lth or support the telegraphers strrlie hut consider It a mistake Their sympathy sym-pathy for the men who have lost their places has Induced them to take action ac-tion as hero named We have a full force of telegraphers employed in all our lines Our business is moving under normal conditions Our earnings for the two first weeks of December were the largest for a like period In the history of the road The purpose of the meeting Is differently differ-ently regarded by the striking telegraphers telegra-phers The latter declare that It is I ridiculous to suppose that men representing i repre-senting other unions working on the I system called for the confeience to intercede In-tercede with the ofliclals to reinstate the striking operators as the slrll < chas c-has not been declared off and the operators do not denlre to return tow to-w ork J It T Austin vicepresident of the Brotherhood of Commercial Telegrapher Telegra-pher and a member of the Order of Railway Telegraphers said From Information received It appears the committee will endeavor to Induce the officials to adjust the differences which caused the strike So far as the strike being over it has only begun and those who are out arc not at all worried over the ultimate result There has been few desertions and evidence In hand Is i Indicative that the better class of telegraphers who arc out of work have no disposition to tale the places left vacant by the union men |
