Show REV MR BAILEYS POSITION THE PRESBYTERY IS NOT APOLITICAL A-POLITICAL BODY Believes in Proposed Constitutional Amendment Regarding Polygamy I but Presbytery is not in Politics I Rev George Bailey of the Westminster West-minster Presbyterian church In referring re-ferring to his opposition to an amendment amend-ment proposed by Rev Mir McClala to a resolution introduced at the meeting meet-ing of the Utah Presbytery on Saturday Satur-day by Rev R G McNlece commendatory commen-datory of the work done by Rev W R Campbell through his paper the Kinsman In bringing about the expulsion ex-pulsion of B IT Roberts from Congress Con-gress defined his position more clearly yesterday to rho Tribune Dr Mc Nlecos amendment Included tho work done by Rev Mr Campbell In Congress Con-gress und in Washington Rev Mr Bailey said the amendment to the resolution seemed to put Mr Campbell in the position of the polh tical representative of the Presbytery at Washington and said Mr Bailey I the Presbytery Is not a political body and does not Interfere in politics and could not afford to appear as main I taining a political representative at the national capital Individually J be llave In and have worked for the proposed pro-posed amendment to the Constitution making polygamy a Federal offense but I dont believe the Presbytery should go on record as Indorsing anyone f I any-one working for It In Congress The Presbytery Is not organized to maintain main-tain any one to work for any political readjustment It Is a religious body and not In politics The term wirepuller I used as Is often done without any sinister meaning mean-Ing attached to It Although the proposed pro-posed amendment to the Constitution Is not a rjueBtlon of party politics and I I men In Washington are needed to advocate ad-vocate it I would not have the Presby tery as Presbyters put in the position posi-tion of maintaining n lobbyist for that or any other purpose |
