Show I WRECK ON THE UTAH CENTRAL Freight Train Derailed on the Ninth South Street Curve Last Evening Even-ing Causing Damage to Cars Amounting to 1500 1 Ii Aj v c I F 5 vz J 5 > C l rv S A freight wreck occurred at the Ninth South curve on the Utah Central Cen-tral about 5 oclock yesterday afternoon after-noon Extra west No 117 from Park City had 18 cars and caboose It struck the curve at the road crossing and a rail turned and bent derailing four cars which were dragged down the steep curve cutting up the grade and tics Near the foot of the grade one of the cars a P R R box was turned half over and the trucks collapsed col-lapsed The cars were R G W 701 and G97 Pennsylvania S359G C B Q 30112 The contents of the cars was not disturbed so that total dam ago will be to three or four pairs of trucks and general wrecking expenses a total of not over 1600 As soon as the wreck occurred the rear brakeman went out to protect his train and No 41 the pascngor which was following The passengers walked half a block to the Rapid Transit cars and cnino to the city No 11 returned to Mill Creek to gather up tools and section men Engine 117 and three cars of the wrecked train which remained on the track came onto on-to time depot to Inform the officials A switch engine and coach was immediately Im-mediately sent up but the pasengers had all left on the street cars The 7 p in train from Mill Crock returned with a large force of men who went to work at once repairing the track A little while later the wrecking crew with tool cars arrived from the Salt Lake shops and work commenced on replacing cars on the track which was acompllshod during time night No 42 ill go out as usual this morn lug |
