party when the Lehl meeting I was held but the dcslro of the citizens there to hear him will be gratified by i tho extra rally I I I t The gentlemen returned to Salt Lake I this morning in excellent health and spirits and confident that the balloting I I tomorrow will result In a complete Republican victory They have vis I Jtcd nearly every county in the State fl f and have addressed large meetings In g fiftyfive different towns They have talked with the voters and have heard I i the claims of the campaign managers of both parties In every section of Utah and basing their judgment upon the Information thus gained at firsthand I first-hand they feel Justified In predicting a I nafc majority for President McKinley the Republican nominees for State of liccs and a majority of the Legislative candidates Coy WELLS CONFIDENT r am feeling in I the very best of ifl spirits said Coy Wells last night I do not sec how the Republican national ith and State ticket can be defeated In Utah We have had every opportunity for gauging public sentiment and ve found the people contented and prosperous pros-perous and not anxious for a change People who have been Democrats ever tflnce the division on party lines have discovered that a change of politics is for their own good Many such Democrats il Dem-ocrats came to me personally and assured I as-sured me that they had decided toot to-ot the Republican ticket Our trip was a success In every way It was difficult In many respects owing to long drives and close railroad connections I connec-tions We were received with hospitality hos-pitality everywhere People of other rk political beliefs than ours greeted ua cordially came I to our meetings and gave us a respectful hearing The attendance at-tendance at the rallies was a surprise r and In some owns it seemed that the entire voting population had l turned out have never before seen such an interest displayed In the discussion of i political issues in this State and In iI this regard the campaign is sure to result In future good I may say too ji1J that never before has theie been such I activeand efllclent work by the Republican tT Re-publican party organizations in Sutherland is equally well pleased with the campaign and the prospects of victory Without desiring to appear ap-pear too confident of the result of tomorrows I to-morrows balloting 1 want to say that r 1 firmly believe our victory Is certain Chairman Canisters claim of 2000 majority ma-jority for the State und national ticket is I think conservative With very i few exceptions the Silver Republicans have all returned to the party and when the ballots are counted It will be found that a surprising number of 1 1 mnocrats have voted the Republican t L ticket Where we went we were given the names of from one to n dozen men who had always been Democrats Dem-ocrats but who had come to the conclusion I < con-clusion that their future welfare depends a i de-pends upon the perpetuation of Republican Repub-lican policies We found a strong undercurrent un-dercurrent of dissatisfaction with the Democratic attitude upon expansion and inclination to doubt the propriety pro-priety of the Democratic stand upon I other great Issues The people seem I to have come to an underotandlng of the Democratic hostility to silver InS In-S the East and to see that the cause Is I 4 hopeless so long as present conditions 1i continue All the conversions reported H were of Democrats We did not hear of U a single Republican who had gone over to the enemy and this fact makes me believe that everything IB coming our way Our trip was a pleasant one and J I enjoyed It There was much satisfaction satisfac-tion In being able to reach xo many 1 people and to find such an Intense Interest
