Show PARADE OF THE MACCABEES Display Made by Tents and Hive of the Order The Order of Maccabees Is to be credited cred-ited with four very attractive floats which formed the picturesque features V of yesterdays parade There was the usual delay in leaving + the Knutsford corner due partly to the fact that the Maccabees attempted the impossible feat of forming their I I divisions In two different places at the I same time and It was 4 oclock when I the start was finally mado I Grand Marshal F S Murphy led off I on horseback Holds Military 1 band I was close on his heels Queen Ethlyn In the royal coach occupied the third place The big Richmond with its enchanting I en-chanting cargo of whlt clad maids of honor came after the queen as on Monday night The flrst of the Maccabee floats represented 1 rep-resented rent No 2 of Salt Lake City I The foundation was of paper mache In imitation of a great honeycomb FloatIng Float-Ing streamers of white gauze united at the top by a golden star formed the I symbolic tent of the order at the back I of the float Stationed In appropriate pacos and attired In the regalia of the lodge were the members of the degree team of Tent No2 They are David Cooper king George Winters Judas William Cooper Eleazer Messrs George Connor and Ralph Holsclaw guards Utonlan Hive No 4 I was represented by an immense beehive containing the queen bee Miss May F Gray and a swarm of little bees In the persons of little girls The four corners of the float were occupied by the maids of honor of the queen bee the Misses Minnie I Reuger Alice Graham LIda Ward and Miss Scarborough The corner poles I were connected by strands of poppies while the hive was smothered In roses and morning glories The third float was the work of Tent No 12 The tents on the ornamental base were of yellow bunting spangled with gold and silver stars The passengers pas-sengers were members of the degree team of this lodge J B WilkIns is king George Ilempkis Judas J W I Gardner Eleazer Messrs Miller and Connor guards Miss Daisy Harvey was the queen bee of Banner Hive No 11 L O T M She was seated In a gilded chariot under I un-der a bower of morning glories roses and peonies About her were eight children with gauze wings and a Cupid I Cu-pid She wore a very elaborate gown of peagreen Swiss V Carriages the wheels of which were decorated with asparagus ferns and I bunting carried eight ladies members of Salt Lake Hive No A and fifty ladies belonging to Banner Hive hud afloat a-float to themselves at the rear of the procession The latter are the drill I team of the lodge and appeared In the red and black uniform carrying spears Owing to the delay In starting the line of march was not strictly followed and several blocks were cut out Upon the termination of this spectacle at the Midway the Maccabees were escorted to sdats on the grand stand while the V queen bees and their tiny companions mingled with the court of the queen on the royal pavilion During the performance that fol lowed Queen Ethlyn and her maids were driven from their proper stations by the heat of the sun which proved in this Instance to be the fierce light J that bents upon a throne The grounds were filled by the throng of sightseers some 2000 in num ber but there was room and to spare on the stand The specialties included Airlon the rope walker Zarella Bros acrobats Ralnner Bros trapeze ar tists and concluded with a pleasing dance of all nations by Prof Lan drums ballet The small dancers were dressed to represent every race and political division and Introduced a number of Individual character specialties spe-cialties |
