Show I AUERBACH HOLIDAY EMPLOYEES HAVE AN OUTING AT LAGOON 1 Enjoyable Afternoon and Evening Spent at the Resort Road Race and Athletic 1 Events S The employees of F Auerbach Bros store had their annual outing I at the Lagoon yesterday afternoon and the store was closed in order to give all an opportunity to participate The excursion was given by the firm complimentary to the employees and valuable prizes were hung iip for the winners of each of the numerous sporting i sport-ing contests The entire afternoon and evening was occupied and a most pleasing time was enjoyed Able and energetic committees chosen from the corps of clerks had charge of the several i sev-eral events which were open only to employees The first event of the afternoon was i A bicycle road race over the eight mile course from Bountiful to the Lagoon La-goon There were seven riders and they started from the Bountiful station i at 2 p m in the following order E A Parson and H A Hansen scratch C Hyldahl and YV Poulton two minutes Roy Cracroft and Orson Willie Wil-lie three minutes Guy Gilbert five minutes lye Those on the observation train witnessed wit-nessed a very pretty contest but the riders wor somewhat handicapped by very dusty roads Cracroft a three minute man showed good speed He won first prize finishing In 2S30 But for a fall he would also have carried off time prize which fell to Parson a scratch man whose time was 2745 Parson also won third prize Second prize went to Poulton time 2930 The others finished in the following order and time Willie fourth 3115 Hyl dahl fifth 3145 Hansen sixth 3045 Gilbert seventh 4100 During the afternoon on the athletic grounds 0 programme of sports was given In the fishing contest lasting half an hour W W Phelps won the prize his catch being twentyeight black bass CE Stewart won the prize for the boat race and received 250 The boys sack race was won by Oliver Hendricksen and Frank Olson and Myron Billings won the three legged race for boys E Stlefel carried off the 250 prize for the mens fiftyyard dash He also won the prize for the standing long jump his record being 9 l feet 6 inches The hop step and Jump wa won by C L Berry Miss Amelia Carr won the ladies egg and spoon race and Miss Ida Larson carried off the prize for the ladles apple and basket race winning it twice A fiveInning baseball game was played between the employees in the wholesale and retail departments which the employees of the wholesale department won by 0 score of IS to Ii Following is the lineup Wholesale 5 Retail Par on VV c Derrick Walter Poulton p Shurtllff Slhlcy lb Scwnrt Sart Rothschild 2b Moore Wallace t 3b King Kerry s s I3rodio Will Poulton 1 1 f Urhinaky Willlo c f BIllings Chase 1 f Stlcfcl l The day was closed by 3 dance In the evening which Included a series or waits contests I Twentyfourth Ward People at Lake The people of the Twentyfourth ward made merry at Saltalr yesterday afternoon and evening No set pro prammc was given but all had a delightful de-lightful Informal time The water was I of a temperature of 82 degrees and was enjoyed by many and the evening was pleasantly spent In dancing Crowd Saw Naval Battle At Calders park last night another big crowd attended the spectacle the MerrJmac and Monitor naval battlo Cannon for G VA R Day A committee from the G A R waited on LleutCol Eskrldge at the post and was promised the loan of two cannon for G A R day at Lagoon and Gov Wells has promised the loan of the old Spanish cannon So the veterans veter-ans will be J well provided with artillery Stole Lunch Baskets E Mulchner and E D Sthopson were run In at Lagoon yesterday afternoon for stealing lunch baskets They were taken before Precinct Justice Lamb of Farmington and were given five days I In the county Jail Both are transients 1 |
