Show FEAST OF CREDIT MEN NEW MERCANTILE ASSOCIATION GIVES A BANQUET Business Session Followed by a Social So-cial FunctionAddresses on Ap I 1 propriato Subjects I The second monthly meeting of tho I Utah Association of Credit Men was held atthe Knutsford lost evening It was an executive session and a large I number attended Matters of general Interest to the mercantile and Jobbers world were discussed and It was decided de-cided to Incorporate at an early data The association is very young but Judging from the interest and enthus iasm shown It will very soon develop Into one of the strong and Important Institutions of the city Following the business meeting a banquet was served In the hotel dln i Jngroom A long table extended around three sides of the room the guests being scaled on the outside A most I delicious menu was served consisting of oysters cold meats relishes salads coffee and cigars The table was r lighted by many wax tapers In dif ferent colored shades and presented avery a-very pretty and inviting appearance After the viands had been served the I president and toastrimeter Ed W Duncan arose and in a very few moments mo-ments had the guests convulsed with the story of the Best Man all agreeing agree-ing that he was the best man He first called upon George Osmond who spoke upon the subject Debtors and Creditors I Credi-tors and gave a masterful address on the relations of the Uo the proper I method of conducting large business enterprises and the growing importance Import-ance of commercial He ended with a description of Salt Lakes advantageous advan-tageous position as the commercial center of this region and the necessity of a banding together of the merchants for their mutual protection City Attorney Frank B Stephens I ably spoke of commercial law more es peclally upon a law enacted elsewhere as to a person being compelled to submit sub-mit a statement of his debts before he could dispose of his stock of goods In I dissecting this law he thought It an unwIse bit of legislation and advised that It bo not agitated here I The address of the evening was made by Attorney A T Sanford who spoke of Partnership He opened his remarks I re-marks with a treatise of business partnerships part-nerships In the smaller walks of life and gradually worked up to the highest I high-est He described the old London guilds and followed the system from Its earliest earl-iest day to the growth corporations and then the establishment of trusts which he said wore the outcome of I partnerships and tho trusts were but steps toward State ownership He showed a thoughtful study of the subject sub-ject jectT T R Black was the next speaker but he got off with a little story and then B W Robinson of Bradstrcets gave a talk on the relationship of reporting agencies and the association The associations asso-ciations ho said wcro a great benefit to thc agencies Those present were YoT Rogers H B Prout George T Odell J A Graham O W Pierce S D Anson Wlllard Scowcroft P L > Dornan W T Benson J B Cbsgrlff Joseph Anderson S M Forbes B AV Robinson F B Stephens Charles IT Llndley Ike Woolf J G McDonald Wit W-it Rash George E Ford C L Swift C R Kern George W Stevenson F W Francis J W Delaney F J Guu nell T R Black J S Ferris George Osmond A T Sanford Qarl 5 Schmidt E W Duncan |
