Show THE ELECTION RESULT A survey of the election returns has some Interesting features The first striking feature is I the fallIng fall-Ing off of the vote in this city I amounts to many thousands I shows I that a great body of voters enough to i havo entirely reversed the present re J HUlt remained away from the poll Thorcason given was a suUciuone that it did not matter which candidate was I ejecled I Is safe to say that of these I I stayaways quite SO per cent wore Tle nubllcans In the sheepntlsihg counties coun-ties atgrcat fraction of the voters were away with their flocks and this Is the most disappointing feature of the result re-sult for no other one class of people In Ulah are so much benefited by I the Republican Re-publican tariff as the woolgrowers Thrco years ago not many of them would have been kept from the polls through care for their flocks I their I example could be imitated not mal of them would be kept from the polls by i a Hka reason three years hence The comparative returns show that there has 1 ben a steady Republican Increase In-crease among the voters almost everywhere every-where throughout the State except I ex-cept In Cache and Washington counties In those counties the I voters seemed to desire to em phasize their opinion that Utah has aright I a-right to elect whomsoever It pleases to Congress and that Congress has no f right to ask any questions regarding who may bo sent so that his credentials creden-tials on their face are regular Evidently Evi-dently Iho polygamists In those two counties were In full control The result re-sult may be most satisfactory to them I so far as gratifying a spite Is concerned con-cerned but they have not helped the I standing of Utah Their act was precisely pre-cisely like the act of gong to the pen In the eighties thcJ keeping ot tho I State under a cloud and they do not seem to consider thc fact hat their r perversity is merely cumulative proof I that they never did mean to keep In good faith the t pledges on which Statehood State-hood was obtained The general result only proves that a great host of voters In Utah have lost heart and that they do not believe that n fair adjustment of political affairs in this State Is possible |
