hlfl brotherW M Wantland Is visiting visit-ing in Pocatello and is looking over S Urn public lands generally in southern and dabtcrn Idaho Mr Wantland said S today that the eycn of Eastern colonlz S eis have b rn on this section for years and now that the Fort Hall reservation S Js about to bft opened he looks for a strong movement of settlers In this S direction I regard It as the best colonizing field In the entire West ho says and without a doubt southern and eastern Idaho will next year get the full benefit or all colonization S movements and for certain dominating S conditions will have the advantage overall over-all other Western States One of these and the chief one ItS i that the Snake river IH today the greatest body of S IrrigatIng water that there IB in the entire country to draw from and the acieage that can be brought under ILl > waters Is only limited by the mountain bases Another is the unique situation of the city of Pocatello a city with a population of 5000 In the center of a region that owing to its being an S Indian reserve Is yet a virgin country No such conditions ever before attended at-tended the opening of an Indian reservation reser-vation and the fact that civilization Js well established will influence many I to come here who from timidity would hesitate about advancing Into an unknown un-known country I believe there Is a healthy advancement advance-ment assured all the towns of eastern Idaho next year From Idaho Falls up to St Anthony the ciops arc InS In-S Plendld condition and T find that the z acreage Is Increasing each year and btlll there are thousands of acres yet under the sagebrush Mr Wantland states that there Is considerable i interest east of the river In regard to theagricultural lands ot the Fort Hall reservation and the Intended In-tended settlers are hoping that the provisions of the freehomes bill pass d at the last cession l of Congress will Le extended over these lands He also slates that Colorado capitalists have been ojuictly investigating the mineral deposits on the reservation and that i with the opening there will be much Colorado money Invested In the mines I Railroad Notes C Ira
