Show CLOSE OF CONVENTION 3rd Christian Endeavors Conclude ut Their Conference j TWO MEETINGS LAST NIGHT Both Meetings Were Largely Attended Attend-ed and Words of Cheer Spoken to the Delegates Rev Hr Beach Delivered an Address at Each 1ii Meeting Rev Dr Brown and Rev W H Bagby also Hade Addresses 5t Christian Endeavorers at tho State Prison 4 rc The twelfth annual convention of the Utah Christian Endeavor union tL and by far the most successful ever I hold in the State came to a close last evening with two rousing meetings One was held In the First Presbyterian church the other In the First Methodist I I Method-ist and both churches were packed l l to the doors Both meetings were t characterized by good music good speaking and a genuine good feeling among all present Dr Beach attended at-tended both meetings and his parting words totho youngapeople were full nf encouragement and hope for the rmuard march of the movement in I which they are all so deeply Interested Rev It 0 McNIcce led the devotional devotion-al service at the First Presbyterian d 1 church which was followed by a I beautifully rendered solo by Mrs Cocks Abldo With Me accompanied 7 by Prof Thomas Radellff t Rev F E Blgelow the newelected president of the union presided at the miitlmr and presented Miss Buchan i I nan chairman of the committee nil i rcsolutlons who presented the report I 1 of the committee The gratitude of the j J union was returned tu DI Beach to the people of the city for their kindly I hospitality to the local union the entertainment I en-tertainment decoration and music committees the press of the city I members uf the Epworth League and E Y P U President Tollcs and Secretaries Sec-retaries Simpson and Corum The closing words of the resolution were that Vf reaffirm our allegiance to the principle of total abstinence and as a body of Christian young people r present our decided disapproval of the sale of Intoxicating beverages especially I espe-cially at tho many pleasure resorts of our State The resolutions were adopted by a rising vote of the l congregation j I con-gregation I REV DR BROWNS ADDRESS Rev Dr Brown of theFirst Congregational I Congre-gational church addressed the congregation congre-gation briefly upon the necessity of acquaintance ac-quaintance and fellowship with the I Lord Josus Christ lie said that the finest experiences of the world are personal per-sonal that which makes life rich and radiant and glorious are personal experiences ex-periences that the very nature of man calls for another person no solitude can be made so grand that a person will not after a brief period become Insane And so the personality of man calls Just as loudly Just as desperately desperate-ly for tho personality of God lie also said that no one would ever know any r thing about the depth and the J1o roC r-oC the religion of Jesus Christ until he had learned to lovo him with all Ills might Miss Louisa Gale sang Daughters of Zion very acceptably and then Dr Beach was presented to the congregation con-gregation DR BEACHS FAREWELL Dr Bcach was greeted with a Chau luuqua salute when he stepped l for word to give the closing address of I the convention He said he had been so pleased with what he had seen in tIn hrlntlan Endeavor movement since coming to tho city his faith In ltah had gone up from 3 13 to H3 I per rent and was rising and that If IIP had 1000 > he Avotild give It Just asa I I I as-a thankoffering for the love of God Ho was delighted at the union of the Christian young people of the State In i one convention and advised them lo hovel let their organizations be separated I sepa-rated except In the sense of corps commanders but let It be an army of young people moving on for the great blessing that Is to come to Utah Then he asked all the Endeavorers to have as their objective for this new year a longing to know Christ to read of his life to talk with him day ly l day so that every boy and girl working under the banners of the Christian LJndcaorers might be able to oh pay that he or she knew Christ better liii bet-ter Uian any living personA I II person-A brief consecration service followed Dr Ileachs remarks In whjch Rev Mr Shanks sang a solo and Mrs I Cocks sang Saved by Grace The Kndoavorers were asked to consecrate their lives anew to the cause In which they were laboring Dr Beach offered of-fered a most beautiful prayer and pronounced the benediction which dismissed dis-missed the convention which hns been d a source of so much gratification and joy to the Christian young people of J the Slate |
