Show MURDER CASE REVIVED ACCUSED MAN TO BE TRIED AlTER Al-TER THREE YEARS Murder was Committed In 1897 Accused Ac-cused Now Doing Time for Burglary Bur-glary in California District Attorney J R McNameo of Lincoln county Nov was n guest at the Cullen yesterday en route home from a highlyInteresting If not sensational sensa-tional trip to California and thereby hangs t tale connected with 3 double murder In Lincoln county Nov In July 1S97 I will be remembered that two men one from Ogden en route to California through Lincoln county in the above month met a man named Hancock nnd n woman who appeared to be pointed In the same direction The Ogden men were not acquainted with tho trail but Hancock said he vas and would point It out He led them to a gulch to camp for lite night and when both were asleep Jt is said that Hancock shot I them through the head cut open the skull of ont with an nx and knocked In the skull of the other man with the butt of t pistol Their wagon was then burned 1 and with the horses and 11 In j mOle secured from the murdered men Hancock and his woman accomplice It is alleged continued through to Call fornla Hancock perpetrated a burglary bur-glary while there and was sent to prison for n term of years A year or so after the crime the woman owned up in another State to the crime and Lincoln county tried to secure the precious I pre-cious person of Hancock with a requisition requi-sition This was refused but District Attorney MeNamce recently went to California with letters from the Nevada Neva-da Slate authorities and nfl r l extended ex-tended conference with Oov Gage and several Judges of the criminal court1 it fna agreed that California would sur render Hancock upon the condition I that in case Lincoln county failed to ronvlct him of murder in the first degree de-gree ho should bp returned to the Slate of California to complete his V term of Imprisonment I After the confession of the woman Sheriff Jack Robinson of Lincoln county coun-ty went to the scene of the murder and found the skulls in the condition I described The Sheriff will leave for I California shortly to bring Hancock I back to bo tried for the murder I |
