Show MOUNTAIN AND COAST FIRE AT BUCKLEY Conflagration in Washington Town Destroys Thirtytwo Buildings Buckley Wash July 27A fire which broke out about 230 this morning morn-ing promised for a while Co destroy the greater portion ot the town There was a panic In the hotels and dwelling houses when the fire was discovered The llve y stable of A T Banks wa the fhst to goup in the flames Young 1 Banks a boy of 18 wh6 nvas asleep in the building liad a 1 narrow escape from being burned to death The entire en-tire building ten horses and all the buggies wagons and harnesses were destroyed The flames quickly spread to the Standard saloon and Buckley hotel The latter building was crowded with guests and there was a panic for a few minutes and a number of the guests rushed out Into the streets scantily dressed In a short tlrric after the fire started the whole town had been aroused and everybody did what they could to aid the lire department A strong wind was blowing and the dry Avooden buildings were licked up very rapidly When It was discovered that the fire department depart-ment could not cope with the flames aid was asked of the neighboring towns An engine was sent from South Prairie and aided In getting the fire under control In all thirtytwo buildings build-ings were destroyed Loss 14000 |
