Show VISITED THE BRANCH NORMAL Legislators Inspected the School and Were Favorably Impressed by the Institution J I TRIBUNE SPECIAL f I Cedar City Utah Feb 27It having I i been definitely decided yesterday evenIng even-Ing that the representatives from the State Legislature would remain only until noon today they were assembled at the normal building at the opening of school ibis morning Tvb or three I hours were pleasantly passedin viewIng i the building and hearing various classes the regular routine work being in progress until ll0 a m wIienahl were called to the ivjcmblyroom Previous to this however the commlllecs had met with the teachers of the Institution when explained the needs of the school had been On convening at the assemblyroom preliminary remarks were made by Prlnqlpal Clark who turned the meetIng I meet-Ing over to the hands of the visitors introducing Senator Tanner as chairman I I r chair-man Dr KIngsbury explained the situ I I allon of the various State institutions In I relation to approprlallona and sialed that It would be necessary to ask I for much loss than the actual requirements of the various Institutions in order to keep within the bounds of the revenue of the State Roprespntallvc Williams of Salt Lake county expressed himself very kindly toward the branch normal and promised prom-ised his supporl for n liberal appropriation I appropria-tion for the same The presiding officer in introducing Senator Klesel expressed the opinion that that gentleman would favor an appropriation ap-propriation for n large gymnasium in connection with the branch normal The Senator from Weber returned the sally with Interest aid expressed him lr In favor of doing all that was possible for southern Utahs cherished Institution Representative D H Morris of Washington Wash-ington was the next speaker He commenced com-menced by saying Mr Chairman Fel lowStudents of the Cow Counties of Southern Utah And cousins suggested several member 1 I am coming to that was the speakers laconic reply I am glad to have our fcndcrfooled friends of the norlh with us upon this occasion Many of them have held the opinion that Ne phi was the southern boundary of the State and J am glad of this opportunity of disabusingtheir minds Continuing Continu-ing he asserted that he was related fo more than hall o the students present I by the klhlrd degree of consanguinity and affinity that there was not a young lady present who had rnol graduated from the washlub and kitchen or a young man who had not ridden bronchos driven team and worked on the farm tat Were il not for the es J I tablishment of the branch normal In their midst not 10 per cent would ever 1 have graduated from the normal and he said when the delegation returned to the capital the branch normal would be given all it asked for After a vocal rendition by the Ladles Glee club Orln Snow of Pine Valley responded in behalf of the students In I a very neat brief speech thanking the i delegates for their visit and in advance for the 550000 appropriation expected This ended the programme and the plgrammc congregation was excused Luncheon was awaiting the visitors at the teachers room which was hastily partaken of and the visitors were assisted into tho carriages which waited at the door and the Journey to I Lund commenced The Utah Pacific 1 railway had been telegraphed to hold the train until Gp m by which time It was expected the station would be reached Jt was Just noon when the carriages left tho building From the expressions of the visitors I It I is expected that the appropriation of two years ago will be increased by MOOO to 55000 but it is not thought that anew new building Aill be decided upon at this session without which It would be impossible to give the fourthyear normal I nor-mal corrrsr gve The residents regret very much that the visitors wore unable to remain over r today and partlcfpate In the entertainment entertain-ment which had been arranged lot at the normal building irowcvcrj Senator Thomas and President I Kingsbury will not go out until tomorrow and tonight arc monopolizing all the attentions which wore to have been divided among the entire delegation A nice programme Is in progress |
