Show SUGAR COMPANYS PLANS T B Cutler on Bear River Purchase and Greeley Plant TRIBUNE SPECIAL Lehi May 10T R Cutler was interviewed in-terviewed at his residence tonight and confirmed the statement of the purchase pur-chase of 30000 acres ol land In the Bear River valley from the Bear River Land Orchard and Beet Sugar company com-pany lor 150000 Mr Cutler la designated desig-nated as the purchaser but in reality it Is the Utah Sugar company and It is to this company that the deeds will be made out They will retain a pot thin of the land themselves and use it for the raising of beettJ and beet seed A large acreage will be devoted to this purpose next season It will be the company policy to dispose of the land to prospective bcetraisera retaining a number of suctions on which will be established model beet farms Of the land purchased but 15000 acres are un tier the canal the balance being above the canal and valuable for range pur poses As the present settlers are nearly all Mltodo farmers many of them stockmen Mr Cutler anticipates little trouble In disposing of the 15000 acres of range country to this class of men Tom Pitt of Corlnnc already has eight sections of this land leased for that purpose Ultimately It Is probable that the canal will also become the property of the Utah Sugar company they considering that It will be preferable i prefer-able to llsposc of the land and water together to desirable settlers Of the 15000 acres under the canal over half is excellently adapted to beet culture and will be ultimately used for this purpose Beet culture In the valley hair passed the experimental stage having been raised for the sugar factory at Ogden on a large scale The sugar company will continue to keep agents In the field for some time yet disposing of lho land Moslah Evana is at pros cut acting as manager for the canal and land company and will probably bo permanently installed in this pest tion W H Howe vlll also bo retained in the service of the company Referring to the location of the sugar factory Mr Cutler waa unwilling to state Just when and where it would bo located but said It would be built as soon as conditions warranted and that it would probably be located where it i could be supplied with pipe lines similar to those which feed the JLchi factory As there are at present over 3500 people In the valley under the canal and others coming in at a satis factory rate It Is likely that this ob ject will soon ba consummated I Speaking of the Colorado sugar foe tory that G A Giancer Is engineering and which will be built at Greeley Cole Mr Cutler said that it would be a model factory in every respect and as much up to dale as genius and money can make it Work will be commenced on it this fall and AVlll bo pushed to completion ready for next seasons run The company will be organized In June when 10 per cent of the capital stock will bopnld in the balance being be-ing forthcoming as fast as it is needed Onehalf of the capital will be supplied by Utah people the balance by Colorado Colo-rado and Wyoming men In regard to the location Mr Cutler said It was about the most Ideal one In Colorado It is the greatest potato region in America and the farmers having had this experience will be well qualified to raise beets At present several thousand acres are being raised In this locality for th sugar factory at Loveland W L Webb a Lehl man being field superintendent in that locality lo-cality The farmers having had the practical experience and Mr Granger having bona fide contracts covering three years for 5000 acres of beets the enterprise is an assured success from its beginning |
