Show r I The Union Depot Franchise L t Editor Tribune I think an Injustice r has been done the prolostartts against granting the union depot franchise It is not a union depot that we hick against but the giving the railroad companies a franchise closing ten acres j of our streets a well as the control of the western portion of our city T jBjcct lo the graiUfng or said franchise r fran-chise for the following reasons I I Pi rat The closing up of ten acres of our streets i Second Trackage und closing oC streets damaging the propertyownora The city will be liable for such damages V dam-ages Third Additional tracks add to tho already dangerous c conditions to the traveling public Fourth A much hotter plan could be and should be adopted That Is l the Klo k GraftdR Western owns a tier of blocks ruflhing1 south from Second South street toth southern limits of our ell > A Iljht way any tjnrodn wide should be purchased through a tier of blocks running north from Second South to the northern limits of this city This would bt right of way sufficient for ten tracks t the removal of the three tracks from our streets to this location would P be a benefit to residents on Third Fourth and Sixth West Then one more track being given for the union I I depot would make only our tracks leaving trackage for other railroads that arc surely coming Besides this r by putting the tracks in a more com pact manner the dangers of life and limb are diminished and by putting viaducts or gates the protection would t be against all the tracks Instead of one > or two as It now is I cannot believe that those who signed I tho petition for the Council to grant wild franchlne know that It means the 1 closing ofour streets and increasing our dangers We ask the Council to protect us In I our rights and adopt a plan that will I benefit all concerned and damage none Respectfully JAMES THOMSON |
