Show Tax Collector Notes Additional Facts Needed on 1962 Returns t - A special message to all federal fed-eral taxpayers was given this week by Roland V. Wise, District Dis-trict Director, Internal Revenue Service, in which taxpayers are I informed of an important new requirement concerning their '62 tax returns that are to be filed by April 15, 1963. Mr. Wise explained the Revenue Reve-nue Act of 1962 now requires the taxpayer's account number (also known as the Social Security No.) be placed upon his tax return as well as upon any schedules sched-ules or documents which are filed with the return. Mr. Wise further pointed out that in addition, individual taxpayers tax-payers must furnish their individual indi-vidual account number (Social Security No.) to anyone who is required to file information on the taxpayer. For example, financial fi-nancial institutions and banks are required to provide Internal Revenue Service with information informa-tion returns reporting dividends and interest earnings. The taxpayer's tax-payer's account number must be shown on these information documents and the payor is re- quired to secure these numbers for that purpose. Last year, Mr. Wise pointed out, about one million additional addi-tional account numbers were issued to taxpayers who filed tax returns but did not show any account number. Now, it would appear, according to Mr. Wise, that nearly all taxpayers have account numbers and will be required re-quired to place this number on their income tax returns beginning begin-ning with the tax year 1962. . Because of the broad and all inclusive coverage of the numbering num-bering program, Mr. Wise suggests sug-gests that tax practitioners, attorneys, at-torneys, accountants and financial finan-cial institutions become familiar with the requirements of employers em-ployers and those individuals engaged en-gaged in a trade or business who are also subject to the numbering number-ing provisions of the Revenue Act of 1962. Mr. Wise has invited these taxpayers who have questions regarding this identifying number num-ber system to contact his offices at Room 365 Federal Building. |
