Show Two S.L. Musicians To Study With Casals Two Salt Lake City musicians have been accepted as performing perform-ing students for the Pablo Casals Master Class in cello which meets from April 23 through May 4 on the Berkeley campus of the University of California. The local participants performed at auditions in Berkeley on March 3 when they competed with musicians, musi-cians, from all over the United States for the coveted opportunity oppor-tunity of studying with the renowned re-nowned Casals. The class of performers per-formers is limited to eight. Auditors may still enroll for the two-week course by applying to University Extension, University Univer-sity of California, Berkeley 4, Calif. The students from this area are Miss Marian Robertson of 1584 South 14th East, and Mrs. Mary Ann Meredith of 1163 Second Sec-ond Avenue. Both are cellists with the Utah Symphony Orchestra. Orches-tra. A member of the Symphony since 1947, Miss Robertson is assistant solo cellist. She is a graduate of Brigham Young University Uni-versity and has studied at the Conservatory of Paris. She was awarded a PhD. degree by the University of Utah in 1960. Mrs. Meredith is assistant principal prin-cipal cellist with the Utah Symphony. Sym-phony. She is a former student of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Tanglewood, the Manhattan Man-hattan School of Music, and the Music Academy of the West. She has toured with the Robert Shaw Choral and has performed with the RCA Victor Orchestra, the New Orleans Symphony and the New Orleans Opera Orchestra. |
