Show King Raps GOP in Congress for i Not Backing Interest Formula Rep. David S. King of Utah Tuesday night lambasted the Republican Re-publican party for "the failure of Republican forces in Congress to support the new interest formula for-mula for the Upper Colorado River Storage Project." Mr. King spoke to Democrats of Senatorial Districts No. 5 and 6 at a picnic rally for the congressional con-gressional and state candidates at the West Jordan Park. "More than 80 per cent of the Republicans in the House voted against giving Upper Colorado an interest formula like those in effect on all of the major reclamation recla-mation programs," he said. "The new formula, which improves im-proves the outlook for early development de-velopment of the Central Utah project, was adopted because 90 per cent of the Democrats in the House voted for it." "This illustrates the difference between the two parties. The Republicans give lip service to reclamation and other programs which conserve and develop our national resources. But they support sup-port only those projects which benefit the district or state they serve. "The Democrats support these programs on principle. They believe be-lieve that one region is just as entitled as another to public works projects, where the projects proj-ects are soundly planned and promise to broaden the foundations founda-tions of our national power and to promote economic growth. "Intermountain Republicans have supported Upper Colorado because it benefits the region, but their support of the veto on the fiscal 1960 public works appropriation ap-propriation shows they do not support the principle of orderly long range resource management and development." |
