Show Legislative Immunity Defined in House Discussion on the floor of the Utah State House of Representatives Represen-tatives concerning the much publicized pub-licized "Legislative Immunity" and the inferred abuses thereor, eased the minds of many legislators legisla-tors when the actual intent and scope of the bill were clearly stated. "Legislators ought to be able to devote their time to the work at hand, one spokesman said, "attending to . questions arising over infractions against the law after this job is done." Citations issued during session it was pointed out, should not involve in-volve action which would absent a legislative member from his post, but, said one attorney of the House, "Law violators can and should be prosecuted after the session." All members agreed that "Legislative "Leg-islative Immunity" was in no sense permission to wilfully break the law, but was intended to relieve law makers from the necessity of making immediate appearances in answer to minor infractions of traffic laws, etc. t |
