He succeeds Dr. Dean Spear, eye specialist. The Salt Lake County Commission Com-mission has approved a request of auditor Glen T. James to have all county departments submit to his office an inventory of all classified physical assets in their custody as of Jan. 1, 1959. Mr. James said that each department head will be notified also that the deadline for requisitions and purchase orders to the county purchasing agent is Dec. 15, 1958. He said this is to allow his office to pay the bills and close the books for the county by Dec. 31, 1958. John Creedon has been elected chief of the Bingham Volunteer fire department for the 12th time in annual elections. A request by Juvenile Judge Rulon W. Clark for an appropriation appro-priation next year of $500 to be used for local entertainment for delegates to the National Council Coun-cil of Juvenile Court Judges annual an-nual convention in Salt Lake City was granted this week by the Salt Lake Commission. The judge told the commission the convention would be held June 16 through 20. Parley B. Mercer, laborer in the Salt Lake City City Streets Department has been authorized by the Salt Lake City Commission Commis-sion to be changed from the daily to the monthly payroll as truck driver at $305 a month. Utah Department of Fish and Game director Harold S. Crane was given a unanimous vote of full support and commendation by sportsmen club delegates from over the state during the recent Utah Wildlife Federation Convention in Logan. Crane earlier during the convention con-vention had urged more active participation and support of the organized sportsmen groups in furthering the state's fish and game program. Newly elected president Leonard Leon-ard C. Madsen of Provo promised prom-ised an active year ahead for the Federation membership as he outlined a program of progress and cooperation in the resource management fields. The three day convention, held on the Utah State University campus, consisted of talks and forums presented by both state and national leaders concerned with resource management. A veteran rocket motor scientist scien-tist and executive, Anthony T. Guzzo, has been appointed director direc-tor of technical operations at Thoikol Chemical Corporation, Utah Division. John Higginson, general manager man-ager of the Utah Division, who made the announcement, said the position is a new one and part of a major organizational change to serve the rapidly expanding ex-panding Thiokol operations in this area. Thiokol recently appointed Bryce Wilhite assistant general manager and technical director, and Jack Buchanan was made director of propulsion systems. Army Pvt. Peter J. O'Connor, son of Mrs. Margaret A. O'Connor, O'Con-nor, 89 C Street, recently participated par-ticipated in a field training exercise exer-cise with the 8th Infantry Division Divi-sion in Germany. O'Connor, assigned to Battery A of the division's 28th Artillery entered the Army in January, 1958 and received basic training at Fort Ord, Calif. He arrived in Europe last May. The 20-year old soldier is a graduate of Judge Memorial and was formerly employed by the Chrysler Corp. To protect the west flank of the United States and Canada from possible air attack from the north, the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line is being extended vest from Alaska along Aleutian Aleu-tian Islands. Western Electric is prime contractor to the govern-! govern-! ment on this project. |
