Show Telephone Company Opens New Facility New dial telephone systems costing in excess of $1,900,000 in Cedar City and St. George will be placed in operation midnight, mid-night, Nov. 15, according to C. A. Yeates, Provo District Manager for the Mountain States Telephone Tele-phone Company. Cedar City will become the hub of telephone communications communica-tions for Southern Utah when the automatic equipment goes into action. A staff of 55 full time operators will continue to be required to provide information informa-tion service and assist in many other ways on local and long distance calls originating in the communities served by the new master exchange. Cedar City will serve as the hoame office for the area couth and west of Beaver as well as Kanab in Utah, and Fredonia, Arizona, and Mes-quite, Mes-quite, Nevada. It will require only a matter cf seconds to cut the telephone cables serving the present manual man-ual offices and place in service the new dial equipped plants. Several major service improvements improve-ments have been made in conjunction con-junction with the dial conver- sions. Many party lines have been changed to one family lines and the number of customers remaining re-maining on multi-party lines has been substantially reduced. Where practical telephone lines have been moved off the streets. Adequate facilities have been made available to provide individual indi-vidual line service to all desiring it in Cedar City, St. George and other communities. Long distance dis-tance lines have been reinforced with additional circuits between frequently called cities in Utah. |
