Thomas has issued a proclamation setting Friday, October 21, as a day of observance of the four hundredth anniversary of the discovery of America. Territory of Vtah:lix compliance with the act of congress the president has Issued his proclamation recommending that Friday, October 21, 1B9J, the tour hundredth anniversary anni-versary of the discovery of the "JJew World" by Columbus, be observed by the people of the United States as a public holidejr. The World's congress auxiliary bas also recommended rec-ommended that the public schools be made the center of the celebration. , , Sow, therefore, I, Arthur L. Thomas, governor of the territory, oo earnestly recommend the people peo-ple to airpropriately observe the day, and that in the public schools, the enlightened product of oar free institutions, such exercises be held as will serve to impress on the minds of the young a just appreciation of the great event which the day recalls re-calls and the wonderful progress which bas signalized American life and history during the four centuries now drawing to a close.
